Job Opportunity: Orthopaedic Officer
Medical Teams International
Medical Teams International is hiring a qualified Orthopaedic Officer to support the management of injuries and diseases affecting bones, muscles, and nerves. This role includes patient assessment, intervention, rehabilitation, and training in the use of prosthetic and orthotic devices.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose, manipulate, and recommend treatment for musculoskeletal conditions.
- Collaborate with health facility teams for pre-operative, operative, and post-operative care, including assisting in surgeries and rehabilitation.
- Respond to emergency fracture and orthopedic cases in collaboration with Clinicians.
- Identify and refer patients needing mobility devices such as wheelchairs, crutches, and walking aids.
- Coordinate with district hospital orthopedic and physiotherapy teams to facilitate access to services.
- Administer and train patients in the use of prosthetic and orthotic devices.
- Conduct home visits for patient follow-up and care continuity.
- Maintain ethical standards and adhere to the MTI Code of Conduct.
- Submit accurate medical reports as scheduled.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Education and Certification
- Diploma in Orthopaedics (required); Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)
- Registration with Allied Health Professionals Council (required)
- Valid practicing license (required)
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of orthopedic practice experience
- Experience with international NGOs is an added advantage
Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of orthopedic principles and best practices
- Understanding of hygiene and infection prevention control protocols
Skills
- Proficient in bone and muscle manipulation
- Ability to select and apply orthopedic appliances
- Excellent communication and patient counseling skills
- Fluent in written and spoken English

Work Conditions
This position requires work at health facilities in remote areas with limited living conditions.
