About the Program

The World Bank Group Pioneers Internship is the World Bank Group’s premier internship program, designed to offer undergraduate and postgraduate students structured learning and practical professional experience. Participants contribute to meaningful projects while gaining direct exposure to the mission, values, and operations of the World Bank Group.

Interns work on impactful initiatives that support global development goals and gain hands-on experience in a dynamic international environment.

Areas of interest include but are not limited to economics, investment, investment portfolio management, human development, public health, education, nutrition, population studies, social sciences, agriculture, environment, engineering, urban planning, natural resources management, private sector development, and corporate support functions such as accounting, communications, human resources, information technology, and finance.

Internship Experience

Interns actively contribute to ongoing projects across multiple areas of the World Bank Group, including health, education, economics, environment, agriculture, urban development, transport, digital transformation, energy, private sector development, and corporate support services.

The program offers professional skill development, close collaboration with experienced professionals, and exposure to how large-scale development programs are designed and implemented.

Interns receive an hourly salary. Accommodation arrangements are the responsibility of the intern. Internship opportunities are based on organizational needs and may be located at World Bank Group headquarters or country offices.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Undergraduate Track: Final-year bachelor’s degree students.
  • Postgraduate Track: Graduate students currently pursuing a master’s degree or Ph.D.
  • Applicants may have between zero and six years of professional experience.
  • Strong computing and technical skills are an added advantage.

  • Proof of Enrollment or Academic Transcript

Undergraduate applicants must clearly show final-year bachelor’s enrollment on their transcript. Postgraduate applicants must clearly show enrollment in a master’s or Ph.D. program.

Once submitted, applications cannot be edited. Applicants will receive an email confirmation with an application reference number.

Selection Process

Shortlisted candidates will be notified and invited for interviews. Successful applicants will join the internship cohort and begin their placements between April and September, with flexible start dates within this period.
