Job Summary
The Water Treatment Plant Operator will be responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining water treatment systems to ensure a consistent supply of treated water that meets required quality and safety standards. The role involves close monitoring of chemical dosing, filtration systems, CIP processes, and utility equipment while maintaining compliance with UNBS standards and internal operating procedures.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Water Treatment and Syrup Room Supervisor and production teams to ensure uninterrupted water supply to production lines and maintain high hygiene and safety standards across the water treatment section.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor all chemical dosing pumps, ensuring correct dosing levels in accordance with prescribed water treatment standards.
- Analyze water quality parameters including TDS, pH levels, alkalinity, chlorine content, and flow rates for both raw and treated water.
- Conduct regular backwashing of carbon purifiers to maintain filtration efficiency.
- Carry out steaming and sanitization of carbon purifiers and ultra-filtration systems.
- Replace filter cartridges according to the approved maintenance and replacement schedule.
- Monitor the operation of all pumps, motors, and machinery within the water treatment section and report any faults or abnormalities immediately.
- Prepare and handle caustic soda, per-acetic acid, and chlorine solutions at the required concentrations for water treatment and CIP operations.
- Report equipment malfunctions, process deviations, or system irregularities to the Water Treatment and Syrup Room Supervisor.
- Inspect utility pumps and monitor cooling tower inlet and outlet circuits to ensure optimal performance.
- Carry out weekly sanitation of water treatment tanks, polishers, filters, and the surrounding water treatment area.
- Monitor micro-filtration systems to ensure they are functioning efficiently and within required parameters.
- Ensure uninterrupted and adequate supply of treated water to all production lines.
- Execute plant CIP operations in line with established CIP mandates and ensure accurate data recording.
- Monitor stock levels of water treatment chemicals and reagents, ensuring adequate availability at all times.
- Regularly check and record readings from gauges, flow meters, charts, and system control panels.
- Maintain accurate water treatment records in compliance with UNBS and internal quality standards.
- Support the training, coaching, and onboarding of new members of the water treatment team.
- Operate and monitor UF, RO, and CIP systems according to approved operational frequencies.
- Ensure all pressure gauges and temperature sensors are calibrated within the specified intervals.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Food Science, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- Higher National Diploma or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline is acceptable.
- Minimum of two to three years of hands-on experience in the food or beverage manufacturing industry.
- Prior experience in beverage production or water treatment plants is a strong advantage.
- Sound knowledge of carbonated soft drink production and industrial water treatment processes.
- Strong understanding of food safety standards and hygiene handling practices.
