Position Summary
Hariss International Limited is seeking a highly experienced and technically competent Treatment Plant Controller to independently oversee the operation, monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP), including both aerobic and anaerobic processes.
The Treatment Plant Controller will have full responsibility for ETP operations, team management, process optimization, regulatory compliance, and reporting. The role supports the Quality and Operations departments by ensuring wastewater treatment processes meet all legal, environmental, and quality standards.
This position requires strong leadership, deep technical knowledge of effluent treatment systems, laboratory testing, ISO standards, and hands-on experience in busy industrial environments.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Plant Operations and Supervision
- Manage and supervise day-to-day operations of the effluent treatment plant.
- Ensure continuous, efficient, and compliant operation of aerobic and anaerobic treatment processes.
- Authorize plant shutdowns and process adjustments in consultation with the Quality Control Manager.
- Ensure smooth plant operations to meet environmental discharge requirements.
Maintenance and Asset Care
- Execute autonomous maintenance of ETP equipment and work areas.
- Plan and implement preventive maintenance schedules based on OEM recommendations.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, chemical, and process-related issues and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain and periodically test all instruments and equipment to ensure accuracy and safety.
Quality Control and Laboratory Management
- Oversee sampling, sample preparation, testing, and analysis of effluent parameters.
- Ensure strict adherence to established sampling plans, testing procedures, and working instructions.
- Analyze and interpret test results, guiding daily operational decisions.
- Develop, modify, verify, and validate laboratory methods to ensure they remain current.
Compliance, Safety, and Environmental Management
- Ensure wastewater discharge meets all legal and environmental compliance requirements.
- Promote occupational health, safety, and environmental standards across all ETP operations.
- Enforce food safety, hygiene, and quality guidelines within the treatment plant.
- Maintain compliance with ISO 17025 and other applicable management systems.
Team Leadership and Capacity Building
- Provide technical leadership, training, and mentorship to ETP personnel.
- Demonstrate proper laboratory protocols, equipment use, and safety procedures.
- Develop yearly competency testing programs for ETP staff.
- Provide daily operational instructions and quality guidance to the team.
Inventory and Resource Management
- Manage inventory of consumables, reagents, and equipment required for ETP operations.
- Oversee ordering, receiving, and consumption of materials.
- Ensure proper storage and calibration of laboratory reagents and equipment.
Audits, Reporting, and Risk Management
- Lead coordination of internal and external audits, including third-party inspections.
- Evaluate audit findings and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Conduct periodic risk assessments related to quality, impartiality, and compliance.
- Report daily ETP performance and any deviations to management promptly.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency improvements.
- Stay updated on environmental legislation, quality standards, and industry best practices.
- Initiate investigations into non-conforming results or complaints in line with ISO requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of six years of hands-on experience managing effluent treatment plants.
- Experience operating both aerobic and anaerobic treatment systems.
Key Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of laboratory testing, reagents, and equipment calibration.
- Expertise in analytical techniques and effluent treatment operations.
- Strong leadership, training, and supervisory skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
- Basic computer skills and technical report writing ability.
- Knowledge of management system implementation.
Mandatory Training and Certifications
- Training in Food Safety and Hygiene Handling Techniques.
- Training or working knowledge of ISO 17025 requirements.
