Description
Telecommunication Engineer
Position: Telecommunication Engineer
Organization: East African Crude Oil Pipeline Co (EACOP)
Location: Uganda
Job Type: Full-time
EACOP is seeking a skilled Telecommunication Engineer to oversee the maintenance, optimization, and continuous improvement of communication systems across all pipeline sites. The role ensures reliability, safety, and compliance of telecom infrastructure including PAGA systems, fiber optics, CCTV, VSAT, LAN/WAN, radio, and microwave systems.
Key Responsibilities

Execute preventive, corrective, and major maintenance for telecommunication systems and equipment.

Perform modifications and adjustments to maintain telecom systems within operational standards.

Provide engineering solutions for wireless telephony, satellite, radio, internet, and broadband communication.

Assist in developing new telecommunication system standards and designs.

Ensure compliance with safety, reliability, and regulatory standards.

Conduct diagnostics, replace defective components, and provide technical support.

Perform backups and maintain inventory of telecom system spare parts.

Establish system recovery procedures and conduct regular tests/drills.

Monitor network performance, configure routers, switches, and hubs, and fine-tune network devices.

Prepare RFQs, evaluate technical bids, and coordinate procurement of telecom equipment.

Liaise with vendors and contractors to maintain critical telecom systems.

Collaborate with ICT and Instrumentation engineers during system interventions.

Prepare SOPs, maintenance reports, budgets, and participate in maintenance campaigns.

Promote HSE (Health, Safety, Social, Security & Environment) policies and practices across all telecom operations.
Academic Qualifications
-
BSc in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation & Control Engineering, Computer Science & ICT, or equivalent from a recognized institution.

Proficiency in written and oral English.

Registration as a Professional Engineer with the relevant Uganda authority.
Experience & Skills
-
Minimum 5 years’ experience in Oil & Gas, Telecom, or high-demand engineering environments.

Hands-on experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
-
Knowledge of plant security systems such as CCTV, Access Control, Identification Management Systems, and Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS).

Proficiency in MS Office.

Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
