Role Overview: Tax Graduate Trainee
As a Tax Graduate Trainee, you will be integral to the delivery of tax advisory services, supporting the tax team in providing compliance, consultancy, and business development services to clients. This role offers hands-on experience preparing tax returns, analyzing tax legislation, and supporting senior engagement managers.
You will gain exposure to Uganda’s tax environment while building professional expertise within a supportive and growth-oriented team.
Key Duties and Responsibilities

Develop and maintain client relationships by supporting tax compliance and advisory engagements.

Prepare and file tax returns for various tax heads in accordance with Ugandan tax laws.

Support senior engagement managers by analyzing tax laws to provide practical advice to clients.

Respond to client queries, ensuring confidentiality and exercising discretion when handling sensitive information.

Document engagement deliverables thoroughly as part of EY’s quality management processes.

Prepare responses to queries raised by tax authorities regarding clients’ tax affairs.

Collaborate closely with team members to enhance the quality and efficiency of tax advice provided.

Stay up-to-date with changes in tax legislation and regulations to ensure compliance and competitive advice.

Assist in preparing client engagement letters and proposals for new business opportunities.

Attend professional development training and seminars organized by EY to build capacity and technical skills.

Perform any additional deliverables assigned by the engagement manager to support client needs and team goals.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
To be considered for this role, you should have:
-
A First Class or Second Class Upper Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Law, or a related field from a reputable university.

A Post Graduate Diploma in Tax will be an added advantage.

Professional qualifications such as CPA, ACCA, or equivalent (full or part-qualified) are highly valued.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Proficient IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.

A minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in a similar or related role will be an added advantage.
