About the Role

Mota-Engil is currently hiring a highly skilled and experienced Senior Financial Compliance Manager to oversee financial governance, tax compliance, audit processes, and internal control systems across the organization. This is a strategic leadership role ideal for professionals with deep knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Ugandan tax laws, and internal audit practices.

The position plays a key part in ensuring Mota-Engil's operations remain fully compliant with both international and local financial regulations. You will serve as the lead advisor for compliance matters within the finance department and act as a point of contact with tax authorities and external auditors.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with IFRS and Ugandan financial reporting standards across all departments.
• Interpret and implement updates to IFRS policies and ensure they are adopted organization-wide.
• Maintain and continuously improve internal accounting policies and procedures.
• Lead all aspects of internal and external audits, including coordination of audit readiness, documentation, schedules, and resolution of issues.
• Monitor and fulfill all statutory tax obligations such as VAT, PAYE, WHT, and corporate income tax filings accurately and on time.
• Serve as the primary liaison with the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) and manage relationships with external tax advisors.
• Stay informed on changes in tax laws and regulations, and provide guidance to internal teams for strategic tax planning.
• Implement and monitor internal financial controls to prevent fraud and enhance operational integrity.
• Conduct regular financial risk assessments and support the organization in mitigating compliance-related risks.
• Supervise and coach a team of technical staff, ensuring their alignment with regulatory and organizational standards.
• Collaborate with departments across the business to embed financial compliance practices into core operations.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline is required.
• Professional certification such as CPA, ACCA, or an equivalent is mandatory.
• A minimum of seven (7) years of progressive experience in audit, taxation, or financial reporting roles.
• Extensive understanding of IFRS, Ugandan tax legislation, and audit procedures.
• Experience in an audit firm or having worked with external auditors is a distinct advantage.
• Hands-on experience with ERP systems like SAP is preferred.
• Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and leadership abilities.
• High integrity, attention to detail, and the ability to manage deadlines under pressure.
• Exposure to the construction or infrastructure sector is desirable but not mandatory.
