Are you a seasoned accounting professional looking to grow your career in the education sector? Aga Khan Education Services Uganda is hiring a Senior Accountant to ensure internal controls, accurate reporting, and compliance with financial policies. This role is ideal for candidates passionate about education, numbers, and leadership.Key Responsibilities
Revenue & Receivables Management
- Ensure weekly updates and accuracy of student registers.
- Verify that invoices reflect correct student enrolments and daily bank deposits are reconciled.
- Post revenue entries to the accounting system after CFO approval.
- Generate enrolment and debtor reports weekly for headteachers, CFO, and CEO.
- Provide monthly financial summaries for the Finance and Audit Committee.
Payables & Payroll
- Implement and monitor a payments tracking system.
- Ensure timely VAT filing and URA query resolution.
- Reconcile payable accounts monthly and resolve outstanding issues.
- Process payroll accurately and on time; file PAYE monthly.
Banking & Cash Management
- Oversee preparation and timely reconciliation of all bank accounts by the 5th of each month.
- Verify petty cash expenses and conduct surprise cash counts periodically.
- Record fixed deposits and interest income accurately and timely.
Fixed Assets
- Maintain an up-to-date fixed assets register with depreciation schedules.
- Ensure all school assets are tagged and insured accordingly.
Budgeting & Reporting
- Assist in the annual budgeting process and gather budget data from departments.
- Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Prepare audit schedules and support audit completion.
- File company and income tax returns in line with statutory requirements.
Team Management & Compliance
- Lead and supervise the accounting team of 4–5 staff.
- Deliver timely, accurate reports and address audit findings.
- Contribute to risk management and internal control improvements.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- CPA(U) or ACCA certification is mandatory.
- At least 5 years of continuous experience in a senior accounting or management role.
- Team management experience (minimum 4–5 people).
- School or educational institution experience is an added advantage.
Skills and Competencies
- Expert-level proficiency in MS Excel and Word.
- Hands-on experience with ERP or accounting systems.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
- Proven leadership and communication skills.
