Role Summary: Safety Manager – Supply The Safety Manager – Supply is responsible for leading and implementing safety policies and programs across Diageo’s supply sites in Uganda. You will ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company safety standards while driving continuous improvement in safety performance. This role acts as the in-market safety lead, coordinating closely with operational teams and external bodies to promote a culture of safety excellence and risk prevention aligned with Diageo’s strategic objectives. Key Accountabilities Safety Management & Compliance Lead execution of Diageo’s Operational Excellence (OPEX) safety standards, policies, and blueprints within the market and site locations. Provide technical safety leadership, coaching operational teams to meet safety standards and achieve targets. Develop and monitor safety plans to meet market/site scorecard objectives. Ensure implemented safety improvements are standardized and sustained across operations. Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, fostering a zero-tolerance culture towards non-compliance. Conduct regular safety audits, performance analyses, and prepare reports for management and regulatory bodies. Risk & Incident Management Perform safety impact assessments to identify and mitigate risks, reducing potential financial and operational liabilities. Manage contingency plans and emergency response coordination, including being on-call for plant emergencies. Collaborate in daily operational review meetings to analyze safety performance and recommend improvements. System Development & Stakeholder Engagement Develop, implement, and continuously improve safety management systems to support Safety Excellence initiatives. Liaise with external bodies such as local authorities, government agencies, and auditors to ensure compliance. Prepare safety reports and act as the safety lead for the market/site, representing Diageo’s safety agenda externally. Supply Chain Excellence & Leadership Embed OPEX standards within supply chain functions, ensuring consistent application and continuous improvement. Use KPIs to manage safety performance and drive corrective actions proactively. Embrace flexibility and innovation in approaches to safety and operational challenges. Maintain strong relationships with key external stakeholders, including suppliers, contractors, auditors, and regulatory agencies. Entry Level Requirements – Skills & Experience Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in safety management within operational or supply chain environments. Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred. Relevant certifications such as NEBOSH or equivalent are advantageous. Strong knowledge of safety legislation, standards, and best practices. Proficiency in audit techniques, risk management, and business continuity planning (BCP). Demonstrated influencing, leadership, and communication skills to drive safety culture. Ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams and external partners.
