Project Background

The DolPHIN-3 Project (Work Package 1 and Work Package 2) is a research initiative focused on evaluating the effectiveness and safety of injectable antiretroviral therapy among postpartum women living with HIV. The study contributes to advancing evidence-based HIV treatment approaches, particularly for women during the postpartum period, and supports improved health outcomes through innovative care models.

Position Summary

The Research Assistant will play a critical role in supporting the implementation of the DolPHIN-3 Project by contributing to both qualitative and quantitative research activities. The role involves direct engagement with study participants, data collection, transcription, data quality assurance, and support for participant recruitment and pre-screening.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Qualitative Research Officer and the wider study team to ensure that research activities are conducted ethically, accurately, and in accordance with approved study protocols and institutional guidelines.

This position is particularly suited for individuals with prior experience in peer mother support and qualitative research within academic, clinical, or public health research settings.

Key Responsibilities

Data Collection

  • Conduct qualitative interviews with study participants in line with approved research protocols.
  • Administer quantitative data collection tools accurately and consistently.
  • Ensure that all interviews and data collection activities follow ethical and methodological standards.

Participant Recruitment and Pre-Screening

  • Support identification, recruitment, and pre-screening of eligible participants for the clinical trial and health systems study.
  • Engage with potential participants respectfully and professionally, ensuring informed consent procedures are followed.
  • Work closely with clinical and research teams to ensure recruitment targets are met.

Data Management and Quality Assurance

  • Transcribe qualitative interviews accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Support data quality assurance and quality control activities.
  • Review collected data to ensure completeness, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Safeguard research data in line with confidentiality and data protection requirements.

Ethical Compliance

  • Ensure all research activities adhere to ethical guidelines and institutional review board requirements.
  • Maintain participant confidentiality and data security at all times.
  • Report any ethical concerns or protocol deviations to the supervising officer promptly.

Team Collaboration and Reporting

  • Work collaboratively with the Qualitative Research Officer and other study team members.
  • Participate in study meetings, training sessions, and briefings as required.
  • Provide timely updates on field activities, recruitment progress, and data collection challenges.

Academic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences or a related discipline.

Person Specification

Experience

  • At least two years of experience in a peer mother role.
  • Proven experience in qualitative research data collection.
  • Previous work within an academic, research institute, or clinical research setting is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience in participant recruitment and engagement with diverse research populations.
