Ecobank Uganda is seeking an experienced and results-oriented Relationship Manager – Commercial Banking to manage and grow a portfolio of commercial and SME clients. The role focuses on revenue growth, balance sheet expansion, credit quality, customer satisfaction, and long-term relationship management. The successful candidate will originate new business, deepen existing client relationships, structure credit facilities, manage portfolio risk, and cross-sell a wide range of banking products including lending, deposits, trade finance, cash management, foreign exchange, and treasury solutions. This position requires strong credit skills, commercial acumen, leadership capability, and the ability to deliver tailored financial solutions across diverse sectors.Key Duties and Responsibilities
Business Growth and Financial Performance
- Execute the bank’s commercial banking strategy to grow market share, revenues, and profitability.
- Acquire new commercial and SME clients while deepening relationships with existing customers.
- Grow loans, deposits, trade volumes, and fee-based income.
- Develop tailored financial solutions including working capital facilities, term loans, trade finance, FX, cash management, and treasury products.
- Segment the SME and commercial market to deliver differentiated value propositions.
- Manage portfolio growth with a strong focus on asset quality and risk-adjusted returns.
Credit Origination and Portfolio Management
- Conduct rigorous credit analysis, financial assessment, and risk evaluation.
- Structure and originate credit facilities in line with internal credit policies and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure high portfolio quality by monitoring performance, early warning signals, and non-performing loans.
- Manage credit renewals, reviews, restructures, and remedial actions where necessary.
- Leverage data analytics to assess creditworthiness and identify growth opportunities.
Customer Excellence and Relationship Management
- Build long-term relationships with commercial clients through proactive engagement and advisory support.
- Cross-sell digital banking platforms, payroll services, insurance, asset management, and investment banking solutions.
- Coordinate with product, treasury, and trade finance teams to deliver competitive pricing and bespoke solutions.
- Develop sector-specific expertise to identify opportunities and manage industry-related risks.
- Ensure efficient and client-friendly onboarding, service delivery, and issue resolution.
Leadership and Stakeholder Collaboration
- Collaborate with risk management, legal, compliance, and operations teams to ensure smooth transaction execution.
- Advocate for clients internally and coordinate cross-functional resources to deliver holistic solutions.
- Represent the bank at industry events, forums, and business conferences to enhance brand visibility.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, innovation, and customer-centricity.
Process, Control, and Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements, KYC/AML standards, and internal policies.
- Execute onboarding, documentation, and due diligence processes in line with regulatory expectations.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting on portfolio performance, risk metrics, and strategic initiatives.
- Manage P&L performance, ensuring revenue growth and cost efficiency.
Strategic and Sustainability Initiatives
- Promote ESG, sustainability, and responsible lending practices.
- Support women-owned and youth-led business initiatives and financial inclusion programs.
- Collaborate with Retail, Corporate, and Diaspora banking segments to support client supply chains.
- Monitor economic, regulatory, and market trends impacting commercial clients.
Key Success Factors
- Sustained growth in commercial loans, deposits, trade volumes, and fee income.
- Strong wallet share and cross-sell penetration across banking products.
- High-quality loan portfolio with controlled non-performing loan ratios.

Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Master’s degree or professional certification such as CFA or ACCA is an added advantage.
- Minimum of six years’ experience in commercial, SME, or corporate banking.
- Proven experience in credit structuring, underwriting, and relationship management.
- Strong understanding of corporate finance, trade finance, treasury, and cash management.
- Experience managing teams, budgets, and P&L.
