Registration Assistant – UNHCR Uganda
Position: Registration Assistant Type: Full-time Organization: UNHCR Location: Uganda Application Deadline: 28th July 2025Job Summary
UNHCR Uganda is seeking a qualified and dedicated Registration Assistant to join its dynamic registration team. As a Registration Assistant, you will support key activities related to registration, reception, filing, and data management. This role is crucial in ensuring that asylum seekers and refugees in Uganda are properly registered and can access services and support in accordance with international standards. If you're passionate about humanitarian work and want to contribute meaningfully to refugee protection, this is an excellent opportunity to apply your administrative, IT, and interpersonal skills.Key Responsibilities
- Conduct registration interviews in line with local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and UNHCR registration standards.
- Respond to inquiries from asylum seekers and refugees regarding registration procedures, rights, and entitlements.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for all individual registration cases.
- Identify persons with specific needs and refer them promptly for protection follow-up.
- Collaborate with protection staff and implementing partners to facilitate the delivery of assistance and documentation.
- Provide interpretation and translation services when required, depending on language competencies.
- Refer relevant cases to appropriate units or implementing partners.
- Support risk identification and contribute to decision-making processes concerning risk in your functional area.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Minimum of 1 year relevant work experience with a High School Diploma; or a Bachelor’s degree or higher in any relevant field such as Social Sciences, Statistics, Mathematics, or Information Technology.
Skills and Competencies
- Basic computer literacy is essential.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational awareness and teamwork capabilities.
- Ability to plan and prioritize workload efficiently.
- Commitment to continuous learning and ethical conduct.
Language Requirements
- Proficiency in English is required.
- Knowledge of local languages is an asset.
Desirable Qualifications
- Prior experience working with the UNHCR proGres software system.
- Experience working in humanitarian or refugee-related programs.
