Project Social Worker

Job Title: Project Social Worker
Location: Kampala, Uganda
Job Type: Full-time
Category: NGO / Social Work / Youth Empowerment / Livelihoods
Organization: Uganda Youth Development Link (UYDEL)

Job Summary

Uganda Youth Development Link (UYDEL) is seeking a dedicated and passionate Project Social Worker to provide case management, psychosocial care, and livelihood support for pregnant adolescent girls and youth. This position is designed for a professional who is committed to empowering young people, strengthening their resilience, and connecting them to opportunities for sustainable livelihoods.

The role is central to UYDEL’s broader mission of addressing the intersections between sexual and reproductive health (SRHR), climate resilience, and youth empowerment. The successful candidate will not only deliver direct support to vulnerable adolescents but also collaborate with communities, caregivers, and institutions to create safe, inclusive, and sustainable pathways for young people.

Key Duties, Roles, and Responsibilities

As a Project Social Worker at UYDEL, your work will focus on providing holistic support to adolescents and ensuring that they access the services and opportunities they need. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting thorough case assessments to identify the needs, risks, and strengths of adolescent girls and youth.

  • Developing and implementing individualized care plans tailored to the unique circumstances of each beneficiary.

  • Delivering psychosocial counselling and support services to adolescents coping with challenges such as unplanned pregnancies, poverty, trauma, and stigma.

  • Coordinating referrals to health facilities, legal aid providers, and child protection services to ensure holistic care.

  • Profiling and monitoring cases to ensure continuity of care and long-term support for beneficiaries.

  • Identifying and linking adolescents to livelihood opportunities, including vocational training, apprenticeships, and climate-resilient income-generating activities.

  • Facilitating life skills sessions and mentorship programs to build confidence, resilience, and decision-making abilities among adolescents.

  • Collaborating with community networks, peer educators, and caregivers to promote safe pregnancies, reduce stigma, and enhance community-based support.

  • Documenting case progress, success stories, lessons learned, and challenges to inform reporting, learning, and advocacy.

  • Supporting monitoring and evaluation (M&E) activities related to case management and youth livelihood interventions.

Qualifications, Education, and Competencies

The ideal candidate must possess a strong foundation in social work, youth engagement, and community development, as well as the ability to apply professional ethics when working with vulnerable adolescents.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Community Psychology, Sociology, or a related field.

  • At least 2 years of professional experience in case management, youth livelihoods, or adolescent-focused programming, preferably within NGOs or community-based organizations.

  • Solid understanding of adolescent development, gender issues, and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).

  • Familiarity with climate change impacts on vulnerable groups, particularly youth and young mothers.

  • Strong facilitation skills, with proven ability to lead life skills sessions, mentorship activities, and community dialogues.

  • Excellent counselling, documentation, and report writing skills.

  • Experience with community-based approaches and referral systems, ensuring adolescents have access to holistic care.

Desirable Attributes

  • A strong passion for youth empowerment, gender equity, and social justice.

  • Experience working in climate-affected or resource-limited communities.

  • Ability to build trust and rapport with adolescents, caregivers, and community stakeholders.

  • High levels of empathy, patience, and cultural sensitivity.

  • A proactive, solution-oriented approach with the ability to work both independently and in teams.
