Job Summary
The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) is recruiting Project Drivers (4) to support the smooth operation of ongoing agricultural projects in Uganda. The role involves safe and responsible driving of project vehicles, transportation of staff and materials, and ensuring proper vehicle maintenance and documentation in line with government and project standards.
This is an excellent opportunity for experienced drivers who are reliable, disciplined, and committed to supporting the ministry’s mission of transforming agriculture and rural livelihoods in Uganda.
Key Duties and Responsibilities

Drive project vehicles in strict compliance with Ugandan traffic laws and project vehicle regulations.

Safely transport project staff, goods, and materials within project operation regions.

Maintain vehicles in excellent working condition, ensuring both interior and exterior are cleaned weekly and the engine/chassis are cleaned quarterly.

Check and ensure tires, spare tire, oil, fuel, water, and other vehicle fluids are at required levels.

Keep the vehicle usage log updated daily and submit monthly reports.

Prepare and submit fuel consumption reports as required.

Conduct regular vehicle servicing and report any malfunctions promptly.

Immediately report accidents or damages to the supervisor.

Safely park and secure vehicles when not in use.

Support project errands and other transport duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
-
Education: Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) with at least a pass in English.
-
Experience: Minimum of 5 years driving experience, preferably with donor-funded projects.

Licensing & Certification:
-
Valid driver’s license in good standing.
-
Certificate of competence issued by the Chief Mechanical Engineer.
-
Defensive Driving Certificate (an added advantage).
-
Car insurance.
-
Core Competencies:
-
Strong knowledge of Ugandan traffic rules and ability to conduct minor vehicle repairs.
-
Familiarity with communication tools such as radio, email, and telephone.
-
High level of trustworthiness, responsibility, and emotional stability.
-
Courteous, neat, and professional conduct at all times.
-
Knowledge of project activity areas and road conditions in Uganda.
-
Ability to communicate effectively in English (spoken and written). Knowledge of local languages is an added advantage.

Flexibility to adapt to shifting project priorities.

Ability to work with people of diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.
