Job Overview
Reach A Hand Uganda (RAHU) is hiring Program Officers to support immunization service delivery in target districts. The officers will work to reduce zero-dose and under-immunized children by strengthening district-level immunization systems, enhancing community engagement, and improving vaccine uptake for priority antigens, including Measles-Rubella, Malaria, Tetanus-Diphtheria, Hepatitis B, Yellow Fever, IPV, and Rotavirus.
Key Responsibilities
Program Implementation and Coordination

Support implementation of immunization campaigns aimed at reducing zero-dose and under-immunized children.

Collaborate with District Health Teams (DHTs), community development officers, and education departments to enhance local immunization systems.

Map and identify communities with zero-dose and under-immunized children in target districts.

Conduct community mobilization activities to address vaccine hesitancy through local structures and leaders.
Monitoring and Data Use
-
Follow up on immunization defaulters and analyze district-level data (HMIS) for decision-making.

Participate in district performance reviews, routine monitoring visits, and data quality assessments.

Conduct immunization data analysis to identify coverage gaps and inform planning.

Leverage the Reach Every District / Reach Every Child strategy to promote equity and coverage.
Community Engagement

Coordinate community events integrating immunization messaging and services.

Engage both health and non-health sector stakeholders to improve awareness and mobilization efforts.

Monitor and document community-based immunization challenges and share findings with district and national stakeholders.
Planning, Reporting, and Documentation

Contribute to work planning, budgeting, and implementation tracking of program activities.

Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual progress reports.

Participate in regular program reviews and monitoring meetings.

Ensure documentation and adherence to safeguarding, data protection, and confidentiality protocols.
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Qualifications
-
Diploma in Nursing, Midwifery, Clinical Medicine, Public Health, or other related fields.

Registered Nurse or Public Health Practitioner.
Experience and Skills
-
At least 1 year of experience working with immunization programs at national or sub-national level.

Strong understanding of Uganda’s public health system, especially Ministry of Health (MoH) immunization policies and structures.

Experience working with District Local Governments and community health systems.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and maintain accountability.

Strong reporting, documentation, and data interpretation skills.
-
Excellent oral and written communication.
-
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
-
Familiarity with the Data Protection and Confidentiality Act.
