About the Role

Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) is seeking a passionate and ambitious Graduate Trainee – Planning Engineer to join its Engineering Department. This role is designed to provide hands-on training and professional development for recent graduates in electrical engineering. The successful candidate will assist in the design, planning, and evaluation of electrical distribution systems, working closely with senior engineers to gain practical experience in network assessment, performance analysis, and project planning.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in developing basic layouts and configurations for electrical distribution systems.

• Collect and analyze technical data to support load flow and fault level studies.

• Participate in network performance evaluations and suggest improvement areas.

• Support the preparation of technical reports, upgrade recommendations, and feasibility assessments.

• Learn and apply relevant electrical engineering standards and safety protocols.

• Contribute to research and benchmarking activities for network planning.

• Assist in preparing preliminary project documentation, including reports, drawings, and cost estimates.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in operations and maintenance.

• Attend site visits, internal meetings, and planning workshops.

• Engage in mentorship programs and structured learning sessions.

• Maintain accurate records of assignments and technical data.

Expected Outputs

• Accurate and timely contribution to planning documents and design drafts.

• Active participation in technical evaluations and feasibility studies.

• Proper documentation and tracking of assigned tasks.

• Effective collaboration across engineering teams.

Minimum Qualifications

Academic Requirements:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a closely related field.

• Must have graduated within the past three (3) years from a recognized institution.

Experience:

• No prior professional experience required.

Key Competencies

• Strong willingness to learn and grow within a technical team.

• Basic knowledge of electrical distribution systems and safety protocols.

• Analytical mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving.

• Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.

• High attention to detail and task ownership.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic engineering software/tools.
