Key Responsibilities
As a Planning and Logistics Officer, you will play a vital role in coordinating materials, production schedules, and logistics operations to ensure timely and efficient supply chain performance. Your duties will include:
Logistics & Freight Management

Manage and implement freight contracts in compliance with internal policies and procurement guidelines.

Liaise with clearing and forwarding agents to facilitate timely delivery of imports and exports.

Evaluate and monitor the performance of logistics service providers, focusing on delivery timelines, cost-effectiveness, and reliability.
Inventory & Materials Planning
-
Monitor inventory levels of raw materials, packaging materials, intermediates, and finished pharmaceutical products.
-
Maintain optimal stock levels to prevent stock-outs while minimizing carrying costs and risk of expiries.
-
Collaborate with the procurement team to ensure timely procurement of raw and packaging materials based on forecasts and production needs.
Production & Schedule Coordination
-
Create and maintain production schedules in line with material availability, manufacturing capacity, and customer requirements.
-
Coordinate closely with Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, and Engineering departments to avoid delays and ensure uninterrupted production flow.

Participate in cross-functional planning and problem-solving sessions to address scheduling or logistical bottlenecks.
Strategy, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) including inventory turnover, order fulfillment rate, and service levels.

Provide actionable insights to support the continuous improvement of logistics and planning processes.

Participate in Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) meetings, providing forecasts and operational insights.

Utilize SAP and other data systems to generate accurate, timely reports and supply chain analytics.

Serve as a communication bridge between the Supply Chain team and other departments, ensuring alignment in operations.
Qualifications and Role Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields:

Science Technology

Or any other related field

Professional Affiliations
-
Membership with the Institute of Procurement Professionals of Uganda (IPPU) or the Pharmaceutical Society of Uganda (PSU) is an added advantage.
Experience
-
Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a pharmaceutical manufacturing setup.
Key Competencies

Strong understanding of inventory planning, supply chain coordination, and regulatory compliance.

Excellent communication, leadership, and supervisory skills.

High level of organizational and time-management capabilities.

Ability to create clear, concise, and accurate reports and documentation.

Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Team player with a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.

Proficiency in MS Office applications and working knowledge of SAP or similar ERP systems.

Flexible, self-motivated, and able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
