Key Responsibilities

As a Planning and Logistics Officer, you will play a vital role in coordinating materials, production schedules, and logistics operations to ensure timely and efficient supply chain performance. Your duties will include:

Logistics & Freight Management

  • Manage and implement freight contracts in compliance with internal policies and procurement guidelines.

  • Liaise with clearing and forwarding agents to facilitate timely delivery of imports and exports.

  • Evaluate and monitor the performance of logistics service providers, focusing on delivery timelines, cost-effectiveness, and reliability.

Inventory & Materials Planning

  • Monitor inventory levels of raw materials, packaging materials, intermediates, and finished pharmaceutical products.

  • Maintain optimal stock levels to prevent stock-outs while minimizing carrying costs and risk of expiries.

  • Collaborate with the procurement team to ensure timely procurement of raw and packaging materials based on forecasts and production needs.

Production & Schedule Coordination

  • Create and maintain production schedules in line with material availability, manufacturing capacity, and customer requirements.

  • Coordinate closely with Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, and Engineering departments to avoid delays and ensure uninterrupted production flow.

  • Participate in cross-functional planning and problem-solving sessions to address scheduling or logistical bottlenecks.

Strategy, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) including inventory turnover, order fulfillment rate, and service levels.

  • Provide actionable insights to support the continuous improvement of logistics and planning processes.

  • Participate in Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) meetings, providing forecasts and operational insights.

  • Utilize SAP and other data systems to generate accurate, timely reports and supply chain analytics.

  • Serve as a communication bridge between the Supply Chain team and other departments, ensuring alignment in operations.


Qualifications and Role Requirements

To qualify for this opportunity, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

Education

  • A Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields:

    • Procurement and Supply Chain Management

    • Procurement and Logistics

    • Logistics and Transportation

    • Pharmacy

    • Chemical Engineering

    • Industrial Chemistry

    • Science Technology

    • Or any other related field

Professional Affiliations

  • Membership with the Institute of Procurement Professionals of Uganda (IPPU) or the Pharmaceutical Society of Uganda (PSU) is an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a pharmaceutical manufacturing setup.

Key Competencies

  • Strong understanding of inventory planning, supply chain coordination, and regulatory compliance.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and supervisory skills.

  • High level of organizational and time-management capabilities.

  • Ability to create clear, concise, and accurate reports and documentation.

  • Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Team player with a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and working knowledge of SAP or similar ERP systems.

  • Flexible, self-motivated, and able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
