Job Summary

Looking for freelance pharmacy jobs in Uganda? Baylor Foundation Uganda is hiring a qualified and motivated Pharmacy Technician to join its team at the Centre of Excellence (COE) in Kampala. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring proper drug dispensing, inventory control, medication adherence counselling, and compliance with Good Pharmacy Practices (GPP).

Key Responsibilities

  • Read and verify prescriptions based on patient weight, height, and body surface area in compliance with Ministry of Health (MOH) and Baylor-Uganda medical guidelines.
  • Dispense drugs accurately and counsel patients and caregivers on proper medication usage, dosage instructions, adverse effects, and drug interactions.
  • Educate patients on medication adherence, especially those on HAART (Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy) and anti-TB regimens.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant pharmacy environment according to GPP standards.
  • Monitor drug storage daily and ensure that medicines are arranged using the FEFO (First Expiry First Out) principle.
  • Update drug inventory records daily and account for every drug dispensed from the pharmacy.
  • Identify, record, and report expired or returned medicines and ensure proper pharmaceutical waste disposal.
  • Support periodic internal audits by providing accurate pharmacy records and contributing to audit reports.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Academic Requirements: Diploma in Pharmacy from a recognized institution.
  • Work Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in a similar role, preferably in a healthcare facility or hospital pharmacy.
  • Core Competencies: Strong knowledge of medication protocols, inventory systems, counseling techniques, and attention to detail.
