Position: Personal Banker
As a Personal Banker, you will be responsible for driving business performance through personalized customer service, product sales, and efficient operational support. You will act as a key point of contact for customers, helping them with account opening, loan applications, card issuance, and other essential banking services.
Key Accountabilities
1. Provision of Customer Service (15%)
-
Own and resolve customer queries related to account opening, card issuance, and loans.
-
Escalate unresolved or delayed issues to the Prestige Branch Manager.
-
Guide customers to appropriate channels (cashiers, ATMs, drop boxes, etc.) to improve service delivery.
-
Notify customers when cheque books, debit/credit cards, and account materials are ready.
-
Walk queues during peak hours to assist customers with quick inquiries and navigation.
-
Restock and maintain promotional materials such as pamphlets and forms.
-
Encourage customers to proceed with loan drawdowns once approvals are in place.
2. Sales to Retail Banking Customers (50%)
-
Participate in product campaigns and clearly explain offerings to potential clients.
-
Consistently meet and exceed assigned sales targets for bank products and services.
-
Track personal sales metrics to contribute to overall branch performance.
-
Open accounts and complete related documentation in accordance with Absa Bank policy.
-
Promote loans, deposits, insurance, and investment products.
-
Identify and act on cross-selling and up-selling opportunities.
-
Build relationships with other branch staff to ensure referrals for appropriate services.
-
Prepare welcome letters and reach out to customers upon account opening.
3. Branch Support (10%)
-
Support the Branch Manager or BOM in opening and closing cashier tills daily.

Authorize teller transactions that exceed the cashiers' limits.
-
Act as a custodian of branch cash—manage replenishment, reorder funds, and monitor cashier levels.
4. Operational Rigour and Compliance (20%)
-
Ensure complete accuracy and compliance in all account openings, loan applications, and KYC documentation.

Maintain a high level of operational discipline to meet internal and external audit standards.

Follow all procedures related to Know Your Customer (KYC), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and fraud prevention.

Conduct regular checks and participate in branch risk control activities.

Ensure all activities align with the Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal bank policies.
Required Qualifications & Experience

Education:
-
A Further Education and Training Certificate (FETC) in Business, Commerce, or Management Studies is required.

Experience:
-
Previous experience in personal or retail banking roles will be a strong advantage.

Proven ability to meet sales targets and provide superior customer service.

Familiarity with bank account opening procedures, lending processes, and financial products is essential.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management abilities.

Sound understanding of banking regulations and compliance requirements.

Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
