Adara Development Uganda is seeking a dedicated and experienced Newborn Health Technical Officer to support efforts in improving the quality, accessibility, and continuity of newborn health services across Uganda. The position plays a critical role in strengthening health systems and supporting evidence-based interventions that reduce neonatal morbidity and mortality. Capacity Building and Clinical Mentorship
- Conduct facility-based and community newborn health training following national and Adara protocols.
- Assess facility-specific needs and create customized mentorship and training plans.
- Provide on-site coaching and bedside mentorship for care of sick, small, and healthy newborns.
- Coordinate learning and exposure visits for clinical skill-building.
- Contribute to the development of training materials and program reports.
- Evaluate training outcomes through assessments and support continuous learning for healthcare workers.
- Plan and conduct targeted continuing medical education sessions.
Health Systems Strengthening and Quality Improvement
- Assist facilities in implementing and sustaining newborn care standards.
- Participate in supervision visits and ensure follow-up actions based on data insights.
- Strengthen referral systems and use of newborn care documentation tools.
- Adapt the AdaraNewborn model to align with national MNCH strategies.
Monitoring, Learning, and Technical Contribution
- Document program activities, outcomes, and key learnings.
- Support accurate data collection and usage at health facilities.
- Collaborate with Adara’s RMEL (Research, Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning) team for data analysis and reporting.
- Promote data-driven decision-making and clinical audits for continuous improvement.
Stakeholder Engagement and Representation
- Represent Adara in technical working groups, learning platforms, and conferences.
- Engage with Ministry of Health officials, district health teams, and partner organizations.
- Build strong relationships with community stakeholders and facility leaders.
- Secure support, alignment, and approvals for all program activities.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Nursing, Midwifery, Medicine, or Public Health.
- At least 5 years of clinical experience in neonatal care, ideally in a Neonatal Care Unit.
- Demonstrated experience delivering training and mentorship in newborn health.
- Strong understanding of Uganda’s national newborn and maternal health policies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English and Luganda.
- Proficient in organizing, managing multiple tasks, and meeting tight deadlines.
- Willingness to travel and spend extended time in rural health facilities.
