Position Summary
The Machine Operator – Labeller will be responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining labelling machines on the production line. The role involves starting and stopping equipment, performing routine cleaning and lubrication, assisting with production operations, and ensuring machines operate efficiently and safely.
The successful candidates will work closely with the maintenance and production teams to ensure smooth operations, minimize downtime, and maintain high quality and safety standards. This position requires attention to detail, technical awareness, and the ability to work under pressure in a busy factory setting.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Machine Operation
- Start up and shut down labelling machines in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Operate labelling equipment efficiently to meet daily production targets.
- Run twin-pack labelling machines where required.
- Perform machine changeovers when production specifications change.
Production Line Support
- Assist with general production line activities to ensure uninterrupted workflow.
- Load and unload boxes, shrink film, and glue into machines.
- Ensure smooth coordination with upstream and downstream production processes.
Machine Care and Maintenance
- Keep labelling machines clean at all times.
- Scrape and remove waste materials such as glue, oil, and film from machines.
- Lubricate machines as required and maintain accurate lubrication records.
- Participate in weekly machine care activities alongside the maintenance team.
Quality Control and Compliance
- Ensure labelled products conform to required specifications and quality standards.
- Mark machine parts for identification when necessary.
- Read and interpret machine gauges accurately.
- Identify defects, abnormalities, or deviations and report them promptly.
Data Recording and Reporting
- Record machine performance data including film weight, glue consumption, and machine counter readings.
- Maintain accurate production and operational records.
- Communicate operational issues or breakdowns to supervisors and maintenance teams.
Safety and Workplace Standards
- Follow all safety, hygiene, and operational guidelines at all times.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Comply with food safety and quality requirements applicable to production operations.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Academic Qualifications
- Minimum of a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience
- At least one year of experience in a similar machine operator role.
- Previous experience in a busy manufacturing or industrial environment is required.
Key Skills and Competencies
- Basic mechanical and electrical understanding of production machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret machine gauges and indicators.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet production deadlines.
- Ability to work independently while following standard procedures.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Additional Requirements
- Familiarity with carbonated soft drinks production and or water treatment plant operations is an added advantage.
- Willingness to work shifts where required.
- Positive attitude and commitment to continuous improvement.
