Job Title: Librarian

Location: Rugongo, Karungu – Buhweju District
Job Type: Full-time

TUMU Medical Institute is seeking a highly organized and service-oriented Librarian to oversee the day-to-day operations of its academic library. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing both physical and electronic resources, supporting academic staff and students, and fostering a conducive learning environment through well-maintained library systems and excellent customer service.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily library operations, including lending, cataloguing, and shelving of materials.

  • Maintain accurate records of books, journals, and electronic resources.

  • Assist students and faculty with research, referencing, and use of academic databases.

  • Monitor library usage and ensure compliance with institutional policies.

  • Organize and maintain a user-friendly library layout to enhance access and usability.

  • Implement and maintain digital library systems for efficient information access.

  • Conduct regular stock-taking and suggest acquisition of new resources.

  • Train and supervise library assistants or interns, if any.

  • Promote reading culture and digital literacy among students.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • A Certificate or Diploma in Library & Information Science or a closely related field from a recognized institution.

  • Proven knowledge of library software systems and digital cataloging tools is an added advantage.

  • Strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office and online database navigation.

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

  • Ability to work independently and within a team in a fast-paced academic environment.
