About the Role
Yalelo Uganda is seeking a qualified and proactive Legal Counsel to provide comprehensive legal support across the company. This position plays a key role in ensuring legal compliance, managing contractual and regulatory matters, and supporting internal departments on a wide range of legal issues. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong drafting, negotiation, and analytical capabilities, with a high level of professionalism and integrity.
Key Responsibilities
Contract Management
-
Draft, review, and negotiate various commercial agreements (e.g., procurement, leases, services, transport).

Maintain and update the company’s contract templates library.

Advise internal stakeholders on contract risks, obligations, and enforcement.

Ensure cross-functional teams understand contractual terms and responsibilities.
Corporate Governance & Compliance
-
Draft corporate resolutions and assist with board/shareholder documentation.
-
Coordinate statutory filings and liaise with the Company Secretary.

Collaborate with Finance on banking and corporate documentation needs.
-
Maintain accurate legal and corporate records.
-
Track legal/regulatory developments; liaise with authorities and external counsel when needed.
Litigation Support
-
Monitor and manage ongoing legal disputes and coordinate with external counsel.

Maintain litigation trackers and case documentation.
Employment Law
-
Support HR in disciplinary matters, employment contracts, terminations, and labor law compliance.

Provide legal advice during internal investigations and employee dispute resolution.
Legal Operations & Administration
-
Manage legal document filing and workflows.
-
Develop and maintain trackers for legal and regulatory activities.
-
Facilitate internal training on legal topics (contracts, compliance, etc.).
Cross-functional Collaboration
-
Work closely with departments including HR, procurement, marketing, sales, and HSE to offer practical legal guidance aligned with business needs.
Required Qualifications & Experience
-
Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from a recognized institution.
-
Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice and valid enrollment to the Uganda Bar.
-
3–7 years post-qualification experience in corporate/commercial law.
-
At least 2 years in a reputable law firm; in-house experience is a plus.
-
Proven experience in contracts and company law; knowledge of employment law is an advantage.

Experience in agribusiness, FMCG, or manufacturing sectors is beneficial.
