Job Summary

Makerere University, one of Africa’s most prestigious academic institutions, is seeking to recruit a qualified individual for the position of Lecturer in the Department of Geomatics and Land Management. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to teaching, research, mentorship, and community engagement in a growing and dynamic academic field that supports Uganda’s development goals.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in geomatics, land management, geospatial science, and related areas.
  • Examine and grade students in accordance with university assessment policies.
  • Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate student research projects.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to departmental academic growth and staff development.
  • Conduct applied and theoretical research aligned with departmental focus areas.
  • Participate in community outreach programs and knowledge transfer initiatives.
  • Write research proposals and secure funding to support departmental research and innovation.
  • Carry out any other official duties as assigned by the Head of Department.

Required Qualifications

  1. A PhD in any of the following areas: Surveying, Geodesy, Land Management, GIS, Geospatial Engineering, or Remote Sensing.
  2. A Master of Science in a related field such as Surveying, Geodesy, GIS, Geospatial Engineering, Remote Sensing, or Land Management.
  3. An Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Science in Surveying, Geomatics, or Geodesy from a recognized institution.
Applicants with a proven record of academic publications, grant-winning proposals, and higher education teaching experience will have an added advantage.
