Job Overview
C-Care Uganda is seeking an experienced Laboratory Coordinator – Upcountry to manage laboratory operations across its IMC facilities in upcountry regions. The ideal candidate will ensure high-quality diagnostic services, regulatory compliance, and efficient laboratory operations while leading and mentoring laboratory staff.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Laboratory Operations & Quality Assurance
-
Oversee day-to-day operations of diagnostic and IMC laboratories in upcountry locations.

Ensure compliance with ISO 15189:2022 and other national and international accreditation standards.

Monitor laboratory workflows to optimize turnaround times and improve service efficiency.

Implement and maintain quality assurance and control programs for reliable diagnostic results.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
-
Ensure strict adherence to biosafety and biosecurity regulations.
-
Conduct internal laboratory audits and prepare for external inspections.
-
Develop, update, and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for compliance.

Collaborate with medical and clinical teams to guarantee timely and accurate diagnostic services.
Equipment & Supply Chain Management

Monitor reagent usage and laboratory supply chains to ensure operational efficiency.

Maintain and optimize laboratory equipment and diagnostic tools.
-
Implement data-driven Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) for streamlined reporting and operations.
Financial & Business Performance

Strengthen budgeting strategies to maximize resource utilization across Uganda laboratories.

Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising diagnostic quality.
-
Oversee billing and revenue cycle management processes.
-
Expand specialized diagnostic services to increase revenue streams.
Staff Development & Leadership
-
Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of medical technologists and lab technicians.

Ensure continuous professional development and training for laboratory staff.

Foster a culture of safety, accuracy, and laboratory excellence.

Clinical Teams – Ensure seamless laboratory operations.

Finance & Procurement – Budgeting and reagent procurement management.

Quality Assurance & Compliance Teams – Maintain safety and accreditation standards.

IT & Digital Transformation Teams – Implement LIS and digital workflow solutions.
External Contacts:

Regulatory & Accreditation Bodies (ISO, CAP, MOH) – Ensure compliance and successful inspections.

Equipment Suppliers & Research Institutions – Implement new diagnostic technologies.

Insurance Companies & Corporate Clients – Develop laboratory service partnerships.
Planning & Reporting

Monthly: Monitor turnaround times, laboratory utilization, reagent stock, and financial performance.

Quarterly: Review quality control metrics, compliance adherence, and efficiency assessments.

Annually: Develop long-term laboratory expansion plans, adopt new diagnostic technologies, and plan for new testing capabilities and equipment upgrades.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Education & Certifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science.
-
Management training or certification is an advantage.
-
Knowledge of ISO 15189:2022, Laboratory Quality Management, or CAP accreditation is preferred.
Experience:
-
Minimum of 5 years in clinical laboratory operations and diagnostic service leadership.

Experience managing multi-site laboratory operations and accreditation processes.
Technical Competencies:

Expertise in laboratory diagnostics, workflow optimization, and laboratory automation.

Strong knowledge of quality assurance, accreditation, and compliance processes.
Behavioral Competencies:

Strong leadership and operational decision-making skills.
