Job Summary:

ABSA Bank is seeking a motivated and proactive Agent Banking Support Advisor to strengthen its agency banking operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for recruiting agents, coordinating onboarding processes, ensuring compliance, providing ongoing support, and driving financial product uptake. This role is vital in expanding the bank's outreach through agency banking, ensuring that clients across Uganda receive high-quality financial services conveniently and securely.

Key Responsibilities:

Sales and Service (30%)

  • Drive the recruitment and selection of reliable, competent, and well-positioned agents by conducting thorough due diligence before submitting applications to the Bank of Uganda (BOU).
  • Oversee the setup of agent banking touchpoints, ensuring all necessary equipment, tools, and compliance documents are in place before operationalization.
  • Ensure agent systems and equipment are functioning optimally, with minimal downtime and maximum uptime.
  • Respond to customer and agent queries or complaints, including those received via the branch network and partner institutions.
  • Coordinate efficient service delivery and issue resolution between the mother branch and its affiliated agents.
  • Support cross-selling initiatives to promote the full range of ABSA banking products and services to agents and their clientele.
  • Work towards growing the bank’s agent banking market share and increasing brand visibility at the grassroots level.

Compliance, Governance, and Controls (30%)

  • Regularly update and maintain comprehensive risk assessment reports related to agent banking operations.
  • Conduct frequent service reviews and provide continuous technical and business support to agents.
  • Appraise and vet potential and existing agents based on Know Your Customer (KYC) standards, financial strength, business viability, community reputation, and other regulatory criteria.
  • Provide structured training to agents and internal bank staff on ABSA’s products, processes, compliance standards, and customer service expectations.
  • Ensure all agents adhere to the Bank of Uganda’s prudential guidelines as well as terms outlined in the agent banking contracts with ABSA.

Business Management (25%)

  • Identify and prioritize promising market entities and locations for new business through agency banking.
  • Conduct market research and gather customer insights to identify the need for new financial products tailored to underserved markets.
  • Contribute to agent performance tracking, reporting, and business growth strategies aligned with ABSA’s strategic goals.

Self-Development and Team Support (15%)

  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with branch managers and staff to ensure mutual benefit and operational efficiency between the branch and its linked agents.
  • Share learnings, field insights, and successful practices with colleagues across different regions and departments.
  • Provide operational cover and support for other Agent Banking Support team members as needed.
  • Actively pursue professional development opportunities, including on-the-job training, workshops, and internal development programs to improve technical and interpersonal skills.
  • Commit to delivering results that exceed performance benchmarks and stakeholder expectations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least a Further Education and Training Certificate (FETC) in Business, Commerce, or Management Studies or related field.
  • Experience in sales, customer service, banking operations, or field-based financial product delivery is a plus.

Key Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of Uganda’s banking and regulatory environment, particularly regarding agent banking and customer outreach programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with diverse teams and community members.
  • Ability to conduct field visits and manage multiple agent sites effectively.
  • Comfortable working in dynamic, target-driven environments with strong attention to compliance.
  • Capacity to handle field-based challenges with professionalism, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven communication skills in both written and spoken English and local languages.
