Position Summary
Kampala Marriott Hotel is seeking a motivated and technically skilled IT Specialist (Pre-Opening) to support the establishment and day-to-day operation of information systems in a luxury hospitality environment. The IT Specialist will support hotel operations by maintaining computer systems, networks, servers, and peripheral equipment while ensuring secure, reliable, and efficient technology services for associates and guests. The role is hands-on and operational, requiring close collaboration with internal teams, vendors, and Marriott International information systems standards.
As a pre-opening role, the IT Specialist will play a key part in setting up technology infrastructure, supporting system testing, and ensuring operational readiness ahead of hotel opening.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Information Systems and Technical Support
- Provide first-line technical support for computer software, hardware, internet access, and peripheral equipment.
- Communicate with other Information Systems personnel to troubleshoot and resolve system issues.
- Respond to system alerts and program error messages by diagnosing and correcting problems.
- Escalate major technical issues or defective equipment to approved vendors or technicians.
- Inspect, test, and diagnose computer systems to ensure optimal performance.
Network and Server Support
- Maintain and support hotel computer networks and connectivity infrastructure.
- Provide support for server systems and associated software.
- Perform regular system backups and ensure secure storage of backup media.
- Support network communications and troubleshoot connectivity issues.
Hardware, Software, and Systems Management
- Install, configure, and modify desktop computers, laptops, docking stations, and printers.
- Set up and modify workstations, including cabling and hardware connectivity.
- Maintain and upgrade hardware, software, and website technical architecture related to telecommunication connectivity.
- Ensure technology devices meet Marriott International standards.
User Account and Data Security Management
- Manage user accounts including creation, removal, and password resets.
- Ensure confidentiality, proper system access, and compliance with data protection standards.
- Educate users on procedures for securing Personal Identifiable Information.
- Secure computer rooms, backup tapes, and telephone systems.
Inventory and Asset Protection
- Maintain accurate inventory records for all technology devices.
- Protect company technology assets in line with hotel policies and procedures.
- Ensure equipment is properly labeled, tracked, and stored.
End-User Support and Training
- Provide timely and professional end-user support to hotel associates.
- Read technical manuals, consult users, and conduct diagnostics to resolve issues.
- Support users in understanding and effectively using hotel technology systems.
Operational Support
- Exchange technical information with other employees using electronic devices.
- Maintain positive working relationships across departments.
- Address guest service needs related to technology where applicable.
- Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by supervisors.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to move, lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 10 pounds without assistance.
- Ability to perform tasks requiring standing, walking, and equipment handling.
Preferred Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
Experience
- At least one year of relevant experience in information technology support or a related role.
- Experience supporting hardware, software, and network systems is an advantage.
Supervisory Experience
- No supervisory experience is required.
Licenses and Certifications
- No specific license or certification is required.
