About the Role

ENGIE Energy Access (EEA) Uganda is looking for a detail-oriented, analytical, and motivated Inventory Accountant to join our growing Finance team. This is a critical role responsible for ensuring accurate inventory accounting and supporting operational efficiency across the supply chain. The successful candidate will work cross-functionally and closely with department heads to identify and resolve bottlenecks, enhance data quality, and optimize inventory control processes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately record product purchases in the general ledger and ensure timely posting.

  • Reconcile stock-in-transit accounts and clear balances promptly.

  • Review landed cost accruals against actual payments and reconcile variances.

  • Coordinate and participate in monthly and ad hoc stock counts.

  • Issue and track stock count sheets; manage stock variance adjustments after approvals.

  • Prepare daily and monthly stock movement schedules and reports.

  • Oversee disposal or sale of damaged stock per Stock Governance procedures.

  • Ensure reconciliation of sub-ledger stock accounts with physical inventory and the general ledger.

  • Investigate and resolve integrity report (IR/ID) differences.

  • Prepare month-end stock valuation reports and assist with cost of sales validation.

  • Support improvements in internal controls related to inventory management.

  • Provide weekly/monthly margin and inventory analysis across product categories.

  • Monitor and ensure accurate update of Bills of Materials (BOM) and production entries in SAP.

  • Provide monthly reports on slow-moving inventory.

  • Maintain repossession and voluntary returns reports with correct accounting and valuation.

  • Track stock orders from China, ensuring delivery and reconciliation with purchase orders.

  • Book all inventory-related transactions in SAP (repossessions, swaps, scrapping, sales).

  • Perform monthly accounts receivable reconciliation.

  • Serve as the central point of contact for inventory matters across departments.


Required Qualifications & Skills

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • Advanced accounting qualifications such as ACCA or CPA are required.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in finance and inventory accounting.

  • Experience in renewable energy, financial services, or last-mile distribution is highly desirable.

  • Proven knowledge of accounting principles and inventory control.

Skills

  • Strong proficiency in Excel and accounting software (preferably SAP).

  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.

  • Analytical and critical thinking capabilities.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to interpret large datasets and translate findings into actionable insights.

  • Willingness to occasionally travel to rural areas to understand field operations.


Language Requirements

  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
