The Internal Auditor will play a key role in ensuring accountability, compliance, transparency, and resource protection across UYDEL’s diverse programs.

This is a unique opportunity for a skilled audit professional to contribute to the financial integrity and operational efficiency of one of Uganda’s leading NGOs. The Internal Auditor will evaluate systems, monitor compliance, identify risks, and recommend corrective actions to safeguard donor resources and enhance UYDEL’s overall performance.

Duties, Roles, and Responsibilities

  • Conducting regular audits of financial records, procurement activities, and operational procedures to ensure compliance with UYDEL policies and donor requirements.

  • Assessing the effectiveness of internal control systems and recommending improvements to address gaps and weaknesses.

  • Reviewing program expenditures, procurement processes, and reporting mechanisms to ensure value for money and compliance with national regulations.

  • Preparing comprehensive audit reports that provide clear, practical, and actionable recommendations for management and the Board.

  • Supporting fraud prevention, detection, and investigation efforts to safeguard project resources.

  • Following up on audit recommendations and tracking the implementation of corrective measures by program and finance teams.

  • Advising management on risk management strategies to enhance operational and financial efficiency.

  • Collaborating with finance staff, program managers, and external auditors to strengthen oversight mechanisms and ensure organizational learning.

  • Promoting a culture of accountability and compliance across UYDEL programs and staff at all levels.

Qualifications, Education, and Competencies

To succeed in this role, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Auditing, or a related field.

  • Professional certification such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) is highly preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant work experience in internal auditing, financial management, or compliance, ideally within an NGO or donor-funded project.

  • Strong understanding of international financial reporting standards (IFRS), procurement policies, and risk management frameworks.

  • Proficiency in audit software and financial management systems.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and report-writing skills.

Desirable Attributes

  • High levels of integrity, objectivity, and confidentiality.

  • Ability to work independently and deliver high-quality outputs under pressure and tight deadlines.

  • Experience working in organizations engaged in climate resilience, health, or youth empowerment programming is an added advantage.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
