Infection Control Officer

C Care IHK is hiring a highly motivated and experienced Infection Control Officer to lead the planning, execution, and oversight of infection prevention and control (IPC) programs across its Integrated Medical Centers (IMCs). This role is central to ensuring the safety of patients, staff, and visitors while maintaining compliance with national and international health standards.

Key Responsibilities

Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) Program Oversight:

  • Guide IPC assessments across IMC facilities and ensure full compliance with national regulations and international IPC standards.

  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of the hospital’s IPC protocols and policies.

Multidisciplinary Coordination:

  • Collaborate with IPC Committee, Clinical Directorate, Laboratory, Pharmacy, Medical Equipment Coordinator, HR, Linen Services, Food Services, Housekeeping, and Operations teams.

  • Provide expert advice and direction on projects involving infection control challenges.

Training & Staff Development:

  • Design and deliver ongoing IPC training for both clinical and non-clinical staff.

  • Conduct competency assessments and recommend further training based on observed gaps in knowledge and practice.

  • Supervise IPC focal persons and ensure they are well-equipped with knowledge and tools.

Monitoring & Evaluation:

  • Conduct both scheduled and spot assessments of infection control practices.

  • Evaluate the implementation of IPC measures across departments.

  • Ensure adequate stock and distribution of infection control materials and supplies.

Policy & Quality Management:

  • Support the development of policies related to infection control in alignment with WHO standards and hospital accreditation frameworks.

  • Resolve operational challenges affecting infection prevention implementation.

  • Promote a continuous quality improvement approach through audits, feedback, and data-driven recommendations.


Qualifications & Experience

Education:

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Clinical Medicine, or a related allied health field.

  • Registration with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council or relevant professional body.

  • Additional training in Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) is a significant advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a hospital or public health setting, preferably with a focus on infection control or clinical quality assurance.


Key Competencies & Skills

  • Deep understanding of infection control protocols, hospital hygiene, and outbreak management.

  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS), clinical audits, and accreditation frameworks.

  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with healthcare professionals, patients, and stakeholders.

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and respond to emergencies.

  • Analytical, proactive, and committed to maintaining high standards of clinical care and safety.


Working Conditions

  • Based at C Care IMCs in Kampala, with occasional travel to affiliated facilities.

  • Regular working hours with flexibility required for training, evaluations, and emergencies.
