Position: Human Resources Manager
As the Human Resources Manager, you will be responsible for designing and executing HR strategies that align with the institution’s mission, growth trajectory, and operational requirements. This includes overseeing recruitment, compliance, employee relations, performance management, organizational planning, and capacity-building.
You will also serve as a trusted advisor to the senior leadership team, supporting their efforts to cultivate a high-performance, purpose-driven, and people-focused culture.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Human Resources Leadership

Design and implement long-term HR strategies aligned with the institution's core priorities: academic excellence, staff development, and operational sustainability.

Lead workforce planning to ensure staffing aligns with both current and future institutional needs.

Collaborate with leadership to champion cultural transformation initiatives that promote engagement, inclusion, responsibility, and a shared vision.

Offer data-driven insights to support decision-making on compensation, retention, employee performance, and diversity metrics.

Serve as a strategic advisor in change management, succession planning, organizational design, and HR compliance.

Contribute to HR budgeting and planning, including compensation strategy, benefits, and staff development programs.
-
Ensure compliance with Data Protection and Privacy Regulations and internal ethical standards.

Drive institution-wide implementation of a robust performance evaluation and professional development system.
Operational Human Resource Management

Manage the entire recruitment lifecycle, ensuring a rigorous and transparent process: from advertising, selection, to onboarding.

Oversee background checks, reference verifications, and credential validation for all hires.

Enforce consistent, fair, and robust performance management and disciplinary procedures.

Maintain compliance with Ugandan labor laws, education regulations, and institutional standards.

Regularly review and update HR policies, employee handbooks, and job descriptions to reflect legal and organizational updates.

Administer employee benefits, leave tracking, and wellness programs to enhance employee satisfaction and retention.

Generate monthly HR reports including KPI analysis, staffing trends, and strategic HR challenges and opportunities.
Governance Support

Act as Secretary to the Human Resources Committee of the Board of Directors:

Prepare board reports, minutes, and follow-up actions.

Facilitate board-level HR discussions and planning.

Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or related field.
-
A Master’s degree and/or professional HR certification (e.g., CIPD, SHRM, or HRMAU) is highly preferred.
Experience
-
At least 5 years of progressive HR experience, with 2+ years in a strategic or leadership HR position.

Prior experience working in education sector HR or within mission-driven institutions is an added advantage.

Deep knowledge of Ugandan labor laws, employment regulations, and best practices in educational staffing.
Key Competencies

Strategic mindset with the ability to influence institutional direction through HR frameworks.

Expertise in using HRIS systems, data analytics, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.

Strong understanding of performance management, compensation benchmarking, and change leadership.
