Yako Bank Uganda Limited was incorporated in 2010 and officially began operating as a deposit-taking microfinance institution in 2015 under the name Yako Microfinance Uganda Ltd. Position Overview

The Human Resource & Administration Manager is a senior-level role reporting directly to the Managing Director. The selected candidate will oversee all human resource management and administration functions, ensuring the bank’s people agenda is aligned with its strategic goals.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for policy development, recruitment, employee relations, compliance, performance management, learning and development, and administrative systems. They will also be a key adviser to senior leadership on HR trends, labor law, and organizational change management.


Key Responsibilities and Duties

As the HR & Administration Manager, your duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the design and execution of the Human Resources strategic plan in line with Yako Bank’s corporate objectives.

  • Guide talent acquisition, staff retention, and succession planning to ensure workforce stability and productivity.

  • Foster a culture that reflects the Vision, Mission, and Core Values of the bank.

  • Act as an internal HR consultant to senior leadership on staff performance, morale, and business relationships.

  • Develop and manage the HR operating budget while ensuring efficient cost control and expenditure tracking.

  • Manage all staff recruitment, orientation, and performance evaluation processes.

  • Review compensation structures and implement equitable and competitive benefit programs.

  • Provide strategic leadership in handling legal and labor relations matters.

  • Oversee HR compliance, audits, and risk assessments in alignment with Uganda’s labor laws and the Bank’s regulatory obligations.

  • Keep employee records up to date and ensure proper functioning of the Human Resource Information System (HRIS).

  • Supervise the rollout and monitoring of performance management systems and employee development plans.

  • Champion employee engagement programs, including wellness and culture transformation initiatives.

  • Keep the organization informed of HR and industry best practices, trends, and innovations.


Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following qualifications and competencies:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Social Sciences, Organizational Psychology, or related field.

  • A Postgraduate qualification in HR or related discipline is required.

  • Membership with the Human Resource Association of Uganda (HRAU) is an added advantage.

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in human resource practice, 5 of which must be in a managerial or supervisory capacity within a financial institution.

  • Strong knowledge of Ugandan labor laws, banking HR practices, and compliance frameworks.

  • Experience in culture transformation, employee engagement, and change management is desirable.

  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.

  • Proficiency in HR analytics, policy writing, budgeting, and use of HRIS systems.
