Job Summary

The Head – Brand and Communication will be responsible for:

  • Developing and executing a customer-focused communication strategy aligned with Airtel’s overall business objectives.

  • Building and protecting brand love among customers.

  • Ensuring strong market presence through innovative campaigns, digital marketing, and brand communication initiatives.

  • Managing a dynamic marketing team while collaborating with other business units to achieve revenue growth and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

As Airtel Uganda’s Head of Brand and Communication, your responsibilities will include:

  • Brand Strategy & Awareness

    • Develop, execute, and safeguard customer brand love.

    • Prioritize high-impact campaigns that drive awareness, trial, and brand loyalty.

    • Ensure Airtel achieves its target share of voice across all communication platforms.

  • Communication & Campaign Management

    • Drive positive and credible outcomes from all brand-related communication.

    • Align communication efforts with Airtel’s corporate identity, brand philosophy, and guidelines.

    • Create new and unique communication channels to engage customers.

    • Benchmark Airtel’s communication strategies against competitors to ensure leadership positioning.

  • Creative Direction & POS Initiatives

    • Lead the creative direction of all local marketing initiatives.

    • Investigate, recommend, and implement point-of-sale (POS) activities that boost customer understanding and product uptake.

    • Ensure compliance with Airtel’s brand guidelines across all marketing and communication materials.

  • Digital Marketing & Social Media

    • Design and manage social media campaigns that drive engagement and customer loyalty.

    • Lead digital-first marketing strategies, ensuring relevance in Uganda’s fast-evolving mobile market.

  • Leadership & Budget Management

    • Manage a diverse marketing and communications team.

    • Oversee budgets, service-level agreements (SLAs), and ensure cost efficiency in campaign execution.

    • Drive performance-oriented culture focused on results and customer satisfaction.


Qualifications & Experience

To qualify for this senior role at Airtel Uganda, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Education:

    • MBA in Business Administration, Marketing, Mass Communication, or a related discipline.

    • Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication or MBA in Marketing (preferred).

    • Professional qualifications in Advertising, Marketing, or Communication will be an added advantage.

  • Experience:

    • 8–10 years of progressive work experience in a similar industry (telecom, FMCG, media, advertising).

    • At least 3 years in a management role overseeing teams and strategic campaigns.

    • Previous experience in an advertising agency is an added advantage.

  • Key Skills & Competencies:

    • Strong creative judgment and critical thinking ability.

    • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.

    • Entrepreneurial ability and business awareness.

    • Strong communication (oral and written) skills.

    • Proven project management and time management skills.

    • Customer-centric mindset with a highly results-oriented approach.
