About the Role

Uganda Airlines is seeking a dedicated and safety-conscious Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Operator to join its Ground Operations team. The GSE Operator will be responsible for operating and maintaining various ground service equipment, including high and lower deck loaders, passenger steps, buses, ambu-lifts, and aircraft servicing equipment. This role requires strong technical and safety skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering excellent service to aircraft and passengers on the ramp.


Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect and ensure serviceability of GSE prior to aircraft positioning.

  • Set up and arrange necessary equipment at the staging area for aircraft arrival/departure.

  • Operate Ground Power Units (GPU), Air Start Units (ASU), Air Conditioning Units (ACU), water and toilet servicing equipment in accordance with SOPs.

  • Provide and operate passenger stairs/steps and ambu-lift services.

  • Open/close cargo hold doors and manage the loading/offloading of cargo.

  • Perform flight deck-ground communication using headsets.

  • Support pushback/towing operations and act as wing walker or signaler as needed.

  • Assist in high-lift access for maintenance or flag installations.

  • Transport aircraft wheels, oxygen/nitrogen bottles, and other components between facilities.

  • Install protective covers before aircraft washing and provide access to authorized personnel.

  • Conduct scheduled aircraft movements to maintain tire durability.

  • Clean cockpit windshields and passenger windows.

  • Accurately document equipment handover/takeover and utilization data.

  • Perform FOD (Foreign Object Debris) checks before and after aircraft operations.

  • Safely dispose of fluids such as fuel, oil, and hydraulic waste.

  • Inspect and ensure fire extinguishers and other ramp safety tools are in working condition.

  • Properly chock aircraft in adverse weather conditions.

  • Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies or equipment malfunctions.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or equivalent.

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience operating GSE on the ramp with a clean record.

  • Previous experience with an airline or Ground Handling Agent (GHA) is preferred.

  • General knowledge of Airside Safety, Driving Regulations, and Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR).

  • Valid National Driving Permit.

  • Valid Airside Driving Permit (ADP).
