Graduate Trainee – Tax Accountant
Department: Finance
Reports To: Senior Accountant – Tax and Statutory
UEDCL is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Graduate Trainee – Tax Accountant to join its Finance team. This role offers practical exposure to tax compliance, accounting systems, and statutory reporting. The trainee will support key tax operations including return preparation, reconciliation of accounts, and document management while learning within a professional finance environment.
Role Impact
The Graduate Trainee will contribute to the accuracy and compliance of UEDCL’s tax filings and reporting obligations. This role builds core competencies in tax accounting, audit readiness, and financial systems, setting a strong foundation for a career in taxation and corporate finance.
Key Responsibilities (Key Result Areas)

Assist in drafting tax returns including VAT, PAYE, Withholding Tax, and Income Tax.

Support timely and accurate submission of tax filings and remittance schedules.

Help with reconciliation of tax-related accounts and posting of related journal entries.

Review transactions and invoices for correct tax treatment under applicable laws.

Organize and maintain records of tax filings, payments, and correspondence with tax authorities.

Support audit readiness by preparing necessary documentation and ensuring completeness.

Provide administrative and data support during internal and external tax audits.
-
Assist in compiling responses and documentation for URA and other statutory authorities.

Contribute to identifying inefficiencies or gaps in tax-related workflows.

Suggest improvements for data management and process optimization.

Participate in structured learning sessions on tax laws, ERP systems, and compliance tools.

Apply learning outcomes directly to day-to-day responsibilities.

Person Specifications
Academic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field from a recognized institution.

Must have graduated within the last three (3) years.

Progress toward a professional qualification such as CPA or ACCA is an added advantage.
Experience:

No prior work experience required.
Core Competencies:

Basic understanding of taxation principles, compliance, and financial reporting.

Strong numerical and analytical skills.

High attention to detail and accuracy in data handling.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic familiarity with accounting software or ERP systems.
