Graduate Trainee
Position: Graduate Trainee – Statistician
Organization: Infectious Disease Institute (IDI)
Location: Kampala, Uganda
Job Type: Full-time
The Infectious Disease Institute (IDI) is hiring a Graduate Trainee-Statistician to join the Statistics Unit within the Research Department. This entry-level role offers an excellent opportunity for recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in data management, statistical analysis, mathematical modelling, and interpretation of clinical and health research data. The trainee will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and national/subnational partners to generate actionable health evidence for informed decision-making.
Key Responsibilities

Design and apply mathematical and statistical methods to analyze clinical and health research data.

Contribute to study protocols, indicator development, analysis plans, and data collection tool design.

Perform robust, reproducible analyses using R, Python, or other statistical software.

Create visualizations and interpret results for technical and non-technical audiences.

Prepare technical reports, manuscripts, and presentations.

Support REDCap database management, including training, quality assurance, and timely resolution of data queries for monthly site reports.

Undertake additional duties as assigned while ensuring data quality, ethical standards, and confidentiality.
Academic Qualifications

Recent graduate (within 1 year) or awaiting graduation with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or Statistics.

GPA of 4.0 and above from a recognized university.

Strong understanding of mathematical and statistical concepts.

Demonstrated ability to translate statistical findings into actionable policy recommendations.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Passionate about public health research and data-driven decision-making.
