About the Role

Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) is seeking enthusiastic and motivated recent graduates for the position of Graduate Trainee – Commercial Operations. This entry-level role offers practical field exposure in the operations and maintenance of the power distribution network. The trainee will work closely with experienced engineers and technical assistants to ensure the delivery of reliable and efficient electricity services, while gaining valuable experience in customer service, fault resolution, and network safety enforcement.


Impact of the Role

This position directly supports UEDCL's mission of ensuring reliable power delivery by contributing to:

  • Timely resolution of network faults and service interruptions.

  • Improved compliance with safety standards and operational protocols.

  • Enhanced customer service response times and satisfaction.

  • Development of future technical professionals in Uganda’s energy sector.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with inspecting, monitoring, and maintaining the electrical distribution network.

  • Participate in identifying and resolving electrical faults and breakdowns.

  • Support resolution of customer complaints related to power outages and reliability.

  • Enforce safety standards during repair and maintenance operations.

  • Accompany Technical Assistants in conducting routine maintenance and installations.

  • Accurately document faults, repairs, inspection findings, and service logs.

  • Participate in local safety audits, compliance checks, and risk assessments.

  • Contribute to reporting on service performance and operational challenges.

  • Learn to use tools and systems for tracking asset status and service delivery.

  • Attend scheduled mentorship programs and technical training sessions.


Expected Outcomes

  • Direct hands-on experience in field operations and maintenance (O&M).

  • Timely participation in resolving faults and carrying out preventive maintenance.

  • Proper and detailed documentation of all technical activities.

  • Compliance with UEDCL’s safety and operational guidelines.

  • Measurable progress in technical knowledge and field readiness.

  • Team-oriented contributions to service delivery and fault management.


Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.

  • Must have graduated within the past three (3) years from a recognized institution.

Experience:

  • No prior professional experience is required.

  • Foundational understanding of electrical distribution networks.

  • Strong willingness to learn and adapt to field-based work environments.

  • Analytical thinking and attention to technical detail.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Teamwork and customer service orientation.
