Job Summary

The Financial Risk Officer will be responsible for the independent oversight of the Bank’s risk exposure across market, liquidity, credit, and country risk. The officer will support the evaluation, monitoring, and reporting of these risks, ensuring full compliance with both internal policies and regulatory guidelines. You will work closely with senior committees such as ALCO, EXCOM, RMC, and BRMC, offering critical insights and assessments.


️ Key Responsibilities

Your duties as Financial Risk Officer will include:

  • Support the bank’s profitability goals by ensuring effective financial risk controls and managing cost savings within the department’s set budget.

  • Provide timely and detailed reports on the level and status of credit, market, and liquidity risks to relevant committees: RMC, EXCOM, ALCO, BCC, and BRMC.

  • Conduct independent reviews of the Bank’s loan book on a monthly basis against internal risk standards and policy requirements.

  • Identify credit and liquidity risk vulnerabilities and provide recommendations for risk mitigation and corrective action.

  • Ensure new loans comply with the Credit Risk Policy, the Central Bank’s prudential guidelines, and policy documentation standards.

  • Conduct monthly reviews of regulatory reports related to credit to ensure accuracy and compliance.

  • Interpret regulatory requirements and convert them into internal processes and periodic risk assessment templates.

  • Independently monitor Global Markets trading activities to ensure compliance with policies and identify breaches, losses, or limit violations.

  • Conduct price validation of all revaluation rates and maintain a database of historical yields and volatilities for trading and investment portfolios.

  • Validate ALCO reports and assess the risk profile of new financial products introduced by the Bank.

  • Provide prompt stakeholder feedback and ensure adherence to internal SLAs to maximize customer satisfaction.

  • Take charge of your own learning and development, including attending training sessions, embracing coaching opportunities, and delivering personal performance targets.


Job Requirements

Academic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields: Finance, Banking, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics, Business Administration (with a focus on Finance), or other quantitative disciplines.

Professional Certifications:

  • A professional qualification in risk management (e.g. FRM, PRM, CFA) is an added advantage.

Work Experience:

  • At least three (3) years of experience in a banking or financial services institution, with a focus on risk analysis, financial controls, or regulatory compliance.


Desired Skills & Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks, including Central Bank of Uganda guidelines.

  • Understanding of credit risk evaluation, market risk, and liquidity risk management tools.

  • Familiarity with financial instruments and pricing models.

  • Excellent report writing, communication, and presentation skills.

  • High level of integrity, accountability, and attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in Excel, risk modeling software, and basic data analytics.
