Position Summary
The Finance Manager will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating all financial management functions across City Medicals Limited and its branches and subsidiaries in and outside Uganda. The role involves financial planning, budgeting, accounting, reporting, compliance, and systems oversight.
The successful candidate will provide strategic financial leadership, ensure robust financial controls, support management decision-making, and maintain compliance with statutory and professional standards. The role requires strong leadership capability, technical accounting expertise, and experience working in complex, multi-entity environments.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Financial Leadership and Strategy
- Provide strategic financial leadership to City Medicals Limited and its branches and subsidiaries.
- Support senior management with financial insights to guide operational and strategic decision-making.
- Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with organizational objectives.
Financial Planning, Budgeting, and Control
- Lead the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
- Monitor budget performance and analyze variances, providing timely recommendations.
- Ensure effective cost control and optimal utilization of financial resources.
Accounting and Financial Reporting
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations across all entities.
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of management accounts and financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards and local accounting regulations.
Systems and Process Management
- Oversee the use and optimization of financial management and accounting software.
- Ensure effective use of ERP systems to support financial reporting and controls.
- Support system improvements, automation, and integration across branches.
Compliance, Audit, and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, professional standards, and internal policies.
- Coordinate internal and external audits and ensure timely implementation of audit recommendations.
- Identify financial risks and advise management on mitigation strategies.
Team Leadership and Capacity Building
- Lead, supervise, and mentor finance and accounts staff across branches.
- Build a high-performing finance team with strong accountability and professionalism.
- Promote continuous improvement in financial processes and reporting.
Multi-Branch and Subsidiary Support
- Provide financial oversight and support to all branches and subsidiaries within and outside Uganda.
- Ensure consistency in financial policies, procedures, and reporting across all locations.
- Support expansion initiatives with financial analysis and feasibility assessments.
Qualifications and Experience
Professional and Academic Qualifications
- Full member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda.
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field.
- MBA or equivalent postgraduate qualification is required.
Experience
- Minimum of seven years of relevant professional experience.
- At least five years in a management or supervisory finance role.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in a similar or related finance management position.
- Experience working in a busy medical or healthcare setting is an added advantage.
Technical Skills and Competencies
- Strong expertise in financial management, accounting, and reporting.
- Hands-on experience with financial management and accounting software.
- Experience using ERP systems; knowledge of Odoo is an added advantage.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent leadership and people management skills.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
