About the Role

True North Africa is hiring a Driver/Mechanic to support Pearl Dairy operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving authorized passengers, transporting goods and services, and performing mechanical inspections and basic repairs on Pearl Dairy vehicles, motorcycles, and tricycles in line with company policies.

Reports To: Fleet Manager

Job Purpose: Ensure the safe and efficient use of company vehicles, as well as timely maintenance and repairs.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive Pearl Dairy vehicles/authorized passengers to designated destinations in accordance with company vehicle usage policies.
• Deliver packages, goods, mails, and other materials to specified recipients, locations, and offices.
• Check vehicle condition before every journey (engine oil, water, brakes, tires, battery water, insurance, etc.).
• Carry out basic vehicle maintenance and minor repairs such as topping up fluids and tightening bolts.
• Keep the vehicle clean and presentable at all times.
• Promptly report any vehicle damages or accidents to the supervisor as per Pearl Dairy policies.
• Ensure the safety of the vehicle, passengers, and transported items at all times.
• Record all trips in a travel log, documenting locations, time, and work hours.
• Prepare and submit monthly vehicle reports according to company policy.
• Strictly adhere to national traffic laws and speed limits.
• Park the vehicle in designated areas and comply with working hour schedules.
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues and recommend repairs or replacements of faulty parts.
• Assist in diagnosing and repairing motorcycles and light vehicles when required.
• Report major mechanical faults immediately to the Fleet Manager.

Person Specification

• Certificate in Motor Vehicle Mechanics or Mechanical Engineering.
• Must have a valid driving permit.
• At least 2 years of experience in repairing tricycles or motorcycles; light vehicle repair experience is an advantage.
• Ability to prioritize tasks based on urgency and need.
• Basic knowledge of using photocopiers, computers, and telephones is preferred.
• Good understanding of safe road use and traffic regulations.
• First Aid skills are essential.
• Mechanical knowledge and the ability to diagnose faults using proper tools.
• Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems for tricycles, motorcycles, and basic vehicles.
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English and any relevant local language(s).
