We are now seeking a qualified and experienced Dispenser to join our health team and contribute to the well-being of vulnerable populations.

Job Summary

The Dispenser will play a vital role in the day-to-day operations of our health facilities. You will be responsible for accurately dispensing prescribed medications to clients, ensuring proper pharmaceutical storage, and maintaining a secure and well-organized dispensary. The Dispenser will also provide essential education to patients regarding medication usage and participate in inventory management to ensure continuous availability of essential drugs. The successful candidate must be a self-motivated and detail-oriented professional who values patient care and safety. Working under the supervision of a Senior Health Officer or Pharmacist, you will contribute significantly to the smooth functioning of the facility’s pharmacy unit.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Dispense prescribed medications to clients in a timely, safe, and efficient manner.
  • Provide clear instructions and counselling to clients regarding proper medication usage, dosage schedules, and potential side effects.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of drugs dispensed and maintain up-to-date pharmacy records.
  • Regularly monitor drug inventory and notify the supervisor of low-stock or near-expiry medications to prevent stockouts and wastage.
  • Participate in monthly and quarterly drug stocktaking exercises and prepare inventory reports as needed.
  • Ensure pharmaceutical supplies are stored in line with recommended safety and hygiene standards to preserve quality.
  • Participate in continuing medical education (CME) programs and trainings organized by the IRC to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Promote medication adherence and support patients in understanding the importance of completing their prescribed treatment courses.
  • Support health education efforts on rational medicine use among patients and caregivers.
  • Maintain a clean and organized pharmacy workspace, including proper labeling and segregation of drugs.
  • Observe and enforce all IRC policies and guidelines related to pharmaceutical handling and patient confidentiality.
  • Assist in the preparation and distribution of health education materials related to drug usage.
  • Maintain security of pharmaceutical supplies and report any discrepancies or losses immediately.
  • Promote the vision, mission, and values of the IRC as expressed in our global standards and regulations.
  • Perform any other relevant duties as assigned by the supervisor or health facility in-charge.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Certificate in Dispensing and Pharmaceutical Management or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Registered with the Allied Health Professionals Council of Uganda.
  • Must hold a valid practicing license.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience, preferably with an international NGO or humanitarian organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and adapt to challenging and fast-paced environments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients and the health team.
  • Proficiency in record-keeping and stock management tools is an added advantage.
  • Commitment to health ethics, professionalism, and humanitarian principles.
