Job Purpose

The Dispenser will be responsible for the preparation, packaging, labeling, and dispensing of drugs and supplies to hospital units and patients. This role requires excellent communication and customer service skills to ensure patients are well-counseled on medication use and adherence to treatment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Dispense medications based on validated prescriptions according to C-Care SOPs and national pharmaceutical standards.

  • Accurately package, label, and document all medications and supplies.

  • Evaluate prescriptions for completeness and legality, ensuring compliance with professional standards.

  • Liaise with medical staff to verify prescription details or resolve doubts related to dosages and instructions.

  • Counsel patients on proper medication usage, dosage, storage, side effects, and adherence.

  • Monitor drug and sundry expiry dates and ensure timely rotation or disposal of expired items.

  • Perform regular stock checks and participate in full pharmacy stock-taking.

  • Ensure refrigerated medicines are stored and monitored according to temperature standards.

  • Maintain clear documentation, stock cards, and digital entries (e.g., Navision) to support inventory and accountability.

  • Safeguard pharmacy resources and promptly report any discrepancies or abuse.

  • Handle telephone inquiries professionally in line with C-Care communication protocols.

  • Participate in departmental audits, quality assurance initiatives, and training programs.

  • Ensure proper disposal of expired or unwanted drugs in accordance with SOPs.

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Pharmacist or Pharmacy Team Leader.


Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma in Pharmacy Technology from a recognized institution.

  • Must be registered with the Uganda Allied Health Professionals Council.

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a similar dispensing role.

Additional Skills and Attributes

  • Solid knowledge of pharmacology, drug indications, and interactions.

  • Previous dispensing experience is an added advantage.

  • Basic computer literacy and familiarity with pharmacy software systems.

  • Excellent communication and patient-care skills.

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multitasking abilities.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-based environment.

  • High ethical standards, accuracy, and professionalism in handling medical supplies.
