The Database Officer will support the effective operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the bank’s database environments under the supervision of senior database administrators. The role focuses on ensuring database availability, performance, security, and compliance while supporting day-to-day IT operations across the bank.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor the health, availability, and performance of databases under the supervision of the Database Administrator.
  • Support execution of routine database maintenance activities, including indexing, patching, and performance tuning tasks.
  • Assist in identifying, tracking, and escalating database anomalies, alerts, and incidents for timely resolution.
  • Support user account management activities, including creation, modification, and access control.
  • Respond to database access-related issues and support internal users in line with access control policies.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of database configurations, procedures, and operational activities.
  • Maintain backup logs, recovery records, and compliance documentation to support audit and regulatory requirements.
  • Support database backup and recovery processes to ensure data integrity and business continuity.
  • Collaborate with IT operations teams to support system administration, scripts, and automation where required.
  • Assist in implementing database security controls and monitoring compliance with information security policies.
  • Participate in system upgrades, testing, and deployment activities.
  • Support continuous improvement of database operations through documentation and process enhancements.
  • Adhere to bank policies, procedures, and IT governance standards.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications such as ITIL Foundation or Database Fundamentals in Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL are an added advantage.
  • A Master’s Degree in Technology or Business-related fields is an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience in IT operations or support roles involving databases, scripting, or system administration.
  • Strong understanding of relational database concepts and basic database administration tasks.
  • Experience supporting backup, recovery, and performance monitoring activities.
  • Ability to interpret system alerts and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Strong documentation and record-keeping skills.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within technical teams.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.
