Database Administrator – Full-Time

Location: Kampala, Uganda Industry: Banking & IT Application Deadline: 27th June 2025 DFCU Bank is seeking a qualified and motivated Database Administrator to join our IT team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, installing, administering, and optimizing company databases to ensure high performance, security, and uptime for critical business applications.

Reporting To:

Database Operations Manager

Key Responsibilities:

• Install, configure, and maintain the organization’s relational databases to ensure maximum uptime and performance.
• Monitor database health and tune performance; implement user access controls and security protocols.
• Support Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity Planning (BCP) initiatives including failover configurations.
• Plan and analyze database storage and capacity needs in line with business application requirements.
• Commission, install, and test new applications and database versions.
• Collaborate with IT and operations teams to ensure data integrity, security, and best practices are enforced.
• Document database operations, procedures, and policies.
• Monitor, investigate, and resolve database and end-of-cycle issues, escalating as necessary.
• Maintain compliance with all relevant internal and regulatory standards.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline.
• Database certifications: Oracle and/or Microsoft SQL Server certifications required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Server OS, UNIX/Linux (Solaris), and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Shell).
• Solid understanding of SQL, RDBMS, and database performance tuning.
• Experience with open-source DBMS like MySQL is essential.
• 3–5 years of hands-on experience in database administration, preferably in financial services.
• ITIL Foundation certification is an added advantage.
• Experience with SQL Server High Availability and enterprise backup systems.
• Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
