About NRC & IDMC

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a humanitarian organization dedicated to supporting displaced people around the world. This position is within the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC), the world’s leading source of data and analysis on internal displacement.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Coordinator to monitor, analyze, and manage data related to internal displacement caused by conflict, violence, and disasters in a sub-region. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in enhancing our data quality, partner engagement, and research outputs.


Key Responsibilities

Data Collection & Analysis

  • Monitor internal displacement events using diverse sources (governments, UN, NGOs, media, research institutes).

  • Curate and upload displacement data into the IDMC database, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timeliness.

  • Analyze trends, identify data gaps, and document the limitations of sources.

  • Provide weekly situation updates on key displacement dynamics in the sub-region.

  • Contribute to high-impact publications, including:

    • Global Report on Internal Displacement (GRID)

    • Mid-Year Updates

    • Regional Reports

    • Country Profiles, blogs, and technical papers.

Partner Engagement

  • Act as IDMC’s focal point for data partnerships in the sub-region.

  • Maintain and expand partnerships with governments, UN agencies, civil society, and academia.

  • Support partner peer reviews and contribute to raising the visibility of partner data.

  • Facilitate dissemination of IDMC findings across key networks and forums.

Capacity Strengthening

  • Identify opportunities to improve data quality and close gaps in national or partner datasets.

  • Support training workshops, develop learning materials, and assist in peer-to-peer learning initiatives.

  • Collaborate closely with the Capacity Strengthening Team to align efforts and measure impact.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Provide user feedback to improve IDMC’s data tools and systems.

  • Support institutional projects and, where needed, travel for field missions, training, or partner engagement.


Qualifications & Experience

Education:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field: International Affairs, Social Sciences, Humanitarian Studies, Statistics, Migration, Information Science, or related.

Experience:

  • 3–5 years in research, data collection, or quantitative analysis—preferably in humanitarian or displacement contexts.

  • Proven experience managing large datasets and working with information management systems.

  • Experience building relationships with diverse stakeholders (government, NGOs, UN, academia).

Skills:

  • Advanced information curation, desk review, and analytical writing abilities.

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and online research tools.

  • Experience with Python, R, or similar statistical software is a strong asset.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills.

  • Political and cultural sensitivity in complex operational environments.

  • Language:

    • Fluent in English (written and spoken) – required

    • Proficiency in Chinese, Japanese, or Hindian asset
