About Raising The Village (RTV)
Raising The Village is a non-profit organization working to end ultra-poverty in Uganda’s most remote villages. Through innovative, data-driven programming and collaboration with local communities, RTV implements sustainable solutions to improve livelihoods, increase access to services, and drive measurable change.
To support monitoring and evaluation efforts, RTV—through its Venn team—is recruiting highly motivated and ethically responsible Data Collectors to support surveys that inform program design, track outcomes, and ensure accountability.
Position Overview: Data Collector
As a Data Collector, you will play a key role in gathering high-quality data that informs program decisions across RTV’s impact districts. This role requires strong communication skills, fieldwork experience, and proficiency with digital tools such as SurveyCTO or Survey123.

Key Roles and Responsibilities
As a Data Collector, your primary responsibilities will include:

Attending detailed training on RTV’s evaluation protocols and digital tools for accurate and ethical data collection.
-
Participating in tool pretesting to ensure effectiveness before actual deployment.
-
Conducting informed consent processes with local leaders and participants before data collection begins.
-
Scheduling and conducting interviews using standardized tools and procedures.
-
Following the assigned work plan, meeting both daily and overall data collection targets.
-
Ensuring all collected data is complete, accurate, and cleaned before submission.
-
Reviewing submitted data for consistency, correctness, and completeness.
-
Maintaining strict confidentiality and adhering to RTV’s ethical guidelines for secure data handling.
-
Taking proper care of all assigned tools (e.g., tablets, chargers, power banks, and bags).
-
Performing any additional duties as assigned by RTV field supervisors.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Candidates must meet the following criteria to be considered:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Quantitative Economics, Information Technology, Social Sciences, or a related discipline.
-
Prior experience in data collection, survey work, or research methods is an added advantage.
-
Strong understanding of probing techniques and ability to conduct structured interviews effectively.
-
Ability to work independently and meet performance targets under minimal supervision.
-
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and digital data collection tools like SurveyCTO, Survey123, or similar platforms.
-
Must be resident or have strong familiarity with the selected district.
Key Competencies and Personal Attributes
-
Physically fit and willing to walk long distances, sometimes in hard-to-reach rural areas.
-
Strong interpersonal skills with a professional attitude and commitment to respectful community engagement.
-
A team player who can also work independently in the field under tight schedules.
-
Excellent time management, attention to detail, and data accuracy skills.
-
Demonstrated honesty, integrity, and ethical behavior, especially when dealing with sensitive community data.

Fluent in English and at least one local language relevant to the area of deployment:

Sironko: Lugisu

Kiryandongo: Alur, Acholi
-
Mitooma & Kanungu: Runyankore, Rukiga

Bunyangabo: Rukonjo, Rutooro
