Role Purpose
Fracht Uganda is hiring a Customs Declaration Executive to provide customs declaration and brokerage services for import and export cargo. The role ensures accurate declarations, correct tax computation, timely cargo release, and maintenance of production lead times in coordination with the Head of Customs Declarations and other internal teams.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1) Procedures, Compliance, and Safety

Participate in reviewing and improving procedures and processes for clearing imports and exports.

Coordinate with Commercial, Projects, Oil and Gas, Aid and Relief, Exports, and Container Tracking teams to plan and execute clearance activities.

Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and safety requirements related to cargo, equipment, and staff.

Ensure safety of staff, cargo, and the environment is not compromised during clearance operations.
2) Customs Declaration and Tax Computation
-
Receive allocated files and prepare accurate customs declarations.
-
Compute applicable taxes and charges including customs duty, excise duty (where applicable), and VAT.

Prepare worksheets, submit them for approval, and capture entries for client tax payments.

Enter declaration data into the system, follow up for release, and coordinate with ICD or port authorities for cargo load-out.

Prepare and process import/export documents and related forms according to customs rules and regulations.

Print and share customs entries for clients or authorized representatives.
3) Release Follow-Up and Post-Entry Support

Email released entries and share copies with the ICD section and customer relations executives (CREs) to support cargo release.

Submit written requests and inquiry letters to URA offices (CBC and URA Towers) to support resolution of clearance issues, track feedback, and report outcomes to the Head of Customs Brokerage.

Respond to queries from URA and clients relating to declaration documents, entries, and post-clearance audit findings.

Review allocated files as assigned by the Head of Department.
4) Bonds, Vehicles, and Special Handling
-
Support the Bonds section to follow up customs bonds and insurance certificates, ensuring proper documentation, bond control, and retirement upon ex-warehousing or re-export.

Follow up and ensure logbooks for imported vehicles are processed and issued.

Support the Bonds team in preparing and monitoring CB10 status, T1 status, overdue reporting to management, and electronic seal monitoring reports.
5) Coordination, Training, and Operational Continuity

Ensure consistent follow-up with customs to facilitate timely processing and cargo release.

Coordinate customs brokerage activities with other sections, departments, and offices to ensure smooth operations.

Support staff monitoring, on-job training, and development initiatives as required.
6) Reporting and Systems Updates
-
Prepare and submit reports to the Head of Customs Declarations on customs brokerage and declaration matters.
-
Escalate unresolved queries to the Head of Customs Brokerage for action.

Update the cargo tracking system promptly whenever new information is received.
-
Carry out assigned ad hoc duties and any other responsibilities delegated by immediate supervisors.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Transport, Procurement, Supplies, or Logistics Management.

Certificate in Customs Clearing and Freight Forwarding Services.
-
Dangerous Goods certificate from IATA is an added advantage.

Must have knowledge of BWIMS.

Must be able to use ASYCUDA and have an active ASYCUDA login.
Experience
-
At least 3 years’ experience in a reputable freight forwarding firm.
