Position Overview

B&Q is seeking a motivated and customer-focused Customer Advisor to join its retail operations in the Central Region of Uganda. The Customer Advisor plays a key role in ensuring customers receive professional assistance, accurate product information, and a welcoming in-store experience.

The successful candidate will engage directly with customers, understand their needs, provide practical advice, and support sales while maintaining high standards of store presentation and operational efficiency. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with people, solving problems, and contributing to a positive retail environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Customer Service and Engagement

  • Welcome customers warmly and create a positive first impression.
  • Understand customer needs and provide clear, accurate, and helpful product advice.
  • Guide customers through product selections to help them achieve their home improvement goals.
  • Respond professionally to customer inquiries, concerns, and feedback.
  • Resolve customer issues promptly or escalate them to supervisors when necessary.

Product Knowledge and Sales Support

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of B&Q products, services, and promotions.
  • Demonstrate product features and benefits clearly and confidently.
  • Support sales targets by recommending suitable products and add-on solutions.
  • Assist customers with product availability, pricing, and alternatives.

Store Operations and Merchandising

  • Ensure shelves and displays are fully stocked, well-organized, and visually appealing.
  • Maintain accurate pricing and signage throughout the store.
  • Support stock replenishment and inventory checks as required.
  • Ensure the sales floor is clean, safe, and compliant with store standards.

Teamwork and Collaboration

  • Work closely with colleagues to ensure smooth daily store operations.
  • Share product knowledge and best practices with team members.
  • Support colleagues during busy periods to maintain service standards.

Health, Safety, and Compliance

  • Adhere to health and safety guidelines to ensure a safe environment for customers and staff.
  • Follow company policies, procedures, and retail compliance standards.
  • Handle products and equipment responsibly to prevent accidents or damage.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in training sessions and development programs.
  • Support promotional activities and seasonal campaigns.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by store management.

Qualifications and Experience

Academic Qualifications

  • Minimum of secondary education.
  • Additional training in sales, customer service, or retail operations is an advantage.

Experience

  • Previous experience in retail, sales, or customer service is desirable.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced customer-facing environment is an added advantage.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Clear verbal communication and active listening ability.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Basic numeracy and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform light physical tasks.
