Credit Risk Specialist – Assessment & Validation
Contract | Location: Kampala | Deadline: Friday, 4th July 2025
DFCU Bank is seeking a highly skilled Credit Risk Specialist – Assessment & Validation to join our team. This role focuses on strengthening risk management by analyzing macroeconomic and sectoral factors, conducting stress tests and scenario analysis, and validating credit risk models to ensure their accuracy, compliance, and effectiveness in estimating potential losses.
Reporting to: Head of Credit Risk Management
Key Responsibilities:

Compile, analyze, and publish key credit risk and performance indicators, performing monthly trend analyses to monitor portfolio health and support strategic decision-making.

Assess macroeconomic trends and sector performance to identify emerging risks, and provide guidance on potential business impacts and priorities.

Design and implement stress tests and scenario analyses to evaluate model resilience under adverse conditions; advise senior management on mitigation strategies.

Validate credit risk models—including corporate rating and retail scoring models—ensuring accuracy in assumptions, formulas, and methodologies.

Conduct trend analyses and utilize analytical indicators to assess loan portfolio quality, aiming to improve collections and recovery efforts.

Benchmark risk appetite, tolerance levels, and limit structures against industry standards and regulatory expectations, aligned with the bank’s strategy.

Ensure compliance with regulatory capital estimation (Standardized and Internal Rating-Based approaches) and statutory loan loss provisioning (e.g., Basel III, IFRS 9).

Develop and maintain efficient reporting tools and templates to streamline risk reporting.

Perform ongoing portfolio surveillance, including earnings reviews and credit market spreads, to proactively address risks.

Analyze performance trends and deviations, providing actionable insights to mitigate risk and optimize profitability.
Qualifications & Experience:
-
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, or a related discipline.

Experience: Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a financial institution, with a focus on credit risk analysis or related roles.

Certifications: CFA, FRM, or similar professional certifications are a strong advantage.

Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Excel, SQL, and statistical tools such as R or Python.

Statistical & Analytical Skills: Proficiency in regression analysis, time-series analysis, and multivariate testing.
