KCB Bank Uganda is inviting applications from experienced professionals for the position of Credit Manager. This is a senior position within the Credit Department, reporting to the Head of Credit. The role demands strong expertise in loan assessment, credit risk analysis, credit portfolio growth, and team leadership. This is a key leadership role that requires a mix of technical credit knowledge and people management skills.Key Responsibilities
1. Credit Appraisal and Decision-Making
- Perform quality assessment and make sound lending decisions within approved discretionary limits.
- Review loan applications to ensure creditworthiness, financial viability, and compliance with bank policy.
- Escalate complex or high-risk cases with recommendations to the Head of Credit or higher authority for review.
- Maintain an excellent standard of loan documentation, analysis, and approval accuracy.
2. Turnaround Time & Service Level Agreements
- Ensure credit decisions are made within the target turnaround time (TAT) and agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Continuously monitor the efficiency of credit processing workflows and recommend process improvements.
- Coordinate with Relationship Managers and Branch Credit teams to reduce loan processing delays.
3. Credit Team Leadership
- Provide strategic leadership to the credit team, driving performance, productivity, and motivation.
- Mentor, coach, and support junior credit analysts and officers across KCB Bank Uganda's branch network.
- Foster a high-performance culture focused on compliance, accuracy, risk awareness, and service delivery.
- Act as the departmental lead when delegated by the Head of Credit or during their absence.
4. Risk Management and Portfolio Quality
- Grow a healthy, performing credit portfolio while minimizing risk of non-performing loans (NPLs).
- Monitor and analyze the loan book regularly to identify emerging credit risks or trends.
- Support collections and recovery efforts by proactively identifying early warning signs.
- Work closely with the Problem Loan Management unit to restructure or mitigate high-risk exposures.
5. Product Development & Credit Tools
- Lead the technical input in developing or enhancing credit products and loan appraisal tools.
- Collaborate with product development, legal, and IT teams to ensure credit tools align with operational needs and compliance standards.
- Continuously benchmark and recommend improvements to existing lending frameworks.
6. Training and Branch Support
- Identify credit skills gaps across the branch network and coordinate tailored training programs.
- Conduct regular branch visits and spot checks to support credit teams in risk analysis and client assessment.
- Deliver refresher sessions on policies, credit scoring models, and compliance requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
Academic & Professional
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (required).
- Professional certifications in Certified Credit Management or Credit Risk Management (required).
- Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, or Risk Management is an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of 6 years of relevant banking experience.
- Strong background in relationship management, credit analysis, loan approvals, and problem loan management.
- Proven leadership capabilities and exposure to multi-branch credit operations are highly desirable.
Core Competencies
- Exceptional analytical and credit assessment skills.
- Ability to interpret financial statements and conduct cash flow analysis.
- Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication abilities.
- Strong knowledge of Central Bank credit policies, IFRS, and risk regulations in Uganda.
- Competency in credit scoring tools, Microsoft Excel, and banking software systems.
